{"id":168066,"date":"2025-06-08T16:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-08T16:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/168066\/"},"modified":"2025-06-08T16:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-08T16:53:12","slug":"our-little-street-is-getting-forgotten-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/168066\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Our little street is getting forgotten about&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents on Kearsley Street have made efforts to look after their community in previous years<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Pat-Edwards-on-Kearsley-Street-in-Walton.jpg\" alt=\"Residents Pat Edwards and Graham Higham on Kearsley Street\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Residents Pat Edwards and Graham Higham on Kearsley Street(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A community in north Liverpool is at risk of \u201cbeing forgotten about\u201d without help to maintain its environment according to a woman who has spent more than 50 years in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Kearsley Street in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/kirkdale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Kirkdale<\/a> is situated in a dense part of north Liverpool, with both Goodison and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/anfield\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Anfield<\/a> just a short walk away and some of the city\u2019s busiest roads running either side. The grass verge divides the homes from the \u201cPits\u201d Powerleague centre on Whittle Street, which is partly responsible for the green space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Efforts have been made to brighten the area up in previous years. In 2021, homeowners <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/city-street-could-liverpools-best-22141456\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"began to add floral displaysLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">began to add floral displays<\/a> including planters outside their properties and installing a row of planters that have lovingly been maintained every since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In December 2022, residents on the Victorian terrace came together to add their <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/north-liverpool-terrace-residents-wont-25772502\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"own Christmas decorationsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">own Christmas decorations<\/a> to brighten up the area, with 7,000 lights festooning the trees outside their homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pat Edwards has lived in the area for more than half a century with her husband, John. She said the current state had left them disheartened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She said: \u201cWhen we can, me and my husband go out for a walk and everywhere else is looked after, the grass is tended to. Our little street is getting forgotten about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe do care about our little street and the environment around it. I\u2019ve lived here for 52 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI\u2019ve been really concerned about the rats we\u2019ve seen. We\u2019ve always loved this street and tried to keep it as nice as we can.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1749401592_745_0_Pat-Edwards-on-Kearsley-Street-in-Walton.jpg\" alt=\"Pat Edwards on Kearsley Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Pat Edwards on Kearsley Street(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cEvery Christmas there would be lights around the trees and things like that but this is more than we can do on our own.\u201d Pat added how on occasion she and John had taken it upon themselves to paint and improve the planters that had been installed outside their home, with John out with his paintbrush as she spoke to the ECHO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cllr Tricia O\u2019Brien is the Labour councillor for Kirkdale East where Kearsley Street is located. She said: \u201cI have ensured that \u00a3500 worth of flowers are to be delivered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe football site have told residents that they have an agreement with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/liverpool-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool Council<\/a> to get the grass cut so I hope that will be done soon. We must make sure it does.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI really do value the residents of Kearsley Street and we do our best to help them during difficult times.\u201d A spokesperson for Liverpool Council said: \u201cOur parks, greenspaces and highways are part of our regular grass cutting schedule, which takes place between March and September each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cPart of the greenspace on Kearsley Street is owned by a private landowner, who are working in partnership with ourselves and Liverpool Streetscene Services (LSSL) to organise maintenance for the grounds suitable for their needs.
