Insiders have revealed what the late Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> reportedly thought of Meghan Markle after their first meeting, which was arranged by Prince Harry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their romance in 2016<\/a>, and soon after, Meghan met the Royal Family<\/a>, including the late monarch.<\/a><\/p>\n

In their Netflix docuseries<\/a>, Harry & Meghan, the couple shared details about Meghan’s first meeting with the late Queen at Royal Lodge in October 2016, a year before their engagement, reports the Irish Star.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Recalling the event, Meghan said: “There wasn’t like some big moment of, ‘now you’re going to meet my grandmother.'”<\/p>\n

She added: I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car and we were going to Royal Lodge for lunch, and he’s like, ‘Oh, my grandmother’s here, we’re going to meet her after church.'”<\/p>\n

Meghan contined to tell the story, and how she was confused by royal protocol.<\/p>\n

She said: “And I remember we were in the car driving up and he’s like, ‘You know how to curtsy, right?’ And I just thought it was a joke.”<\/p>\n

Royal correspondent Richard Eden has revealed that palace insiders believed the late Queen Elizabeth II initially saw Meghan as a “breath of fresh air and a great asset” to the monarchy.<\/p>\n

Eden wrote in his column that the Queen had warmly welcomed Harry’s partner, extending an “unprecedented and highly personal gesture” by inviting Meghan to join the Royal Family<\/a> for Christmas at Sandringham in 2017, before their wedding.<\/p>\n

Breaking with tradition, which typically only includes those married into the Royal Family in Christmas celebrations, the Queen made an exception for Meghan in 2017.<\/p>\n

The late monarch also appeared to reference Meghan in her Christmas broadcast, mentioning “new members” of the family.<\/p>\n

However, as the couple’s 2018 wedding drew near, the Queen<\/a> reportedly began to have reservations about Meghan’s behavior and attitude.<\/p>\n

According to reports, the late monarch was surprised when Meghan declined her suggestion that Duchess Sophie mentor her on marrying into the Royal Family.<\/p>\n

The Queen was also reportedly “taken aback” by Meghan’s choice of wedding gown and her approach to wearing the tiara.<\/p>\n

Palace staff allegedly felt that the duchess “may not have wanted to make a success of her life in Britain” as she began her Royal duties and seemed to be “actively seeking reasons to be unhappy or resentful”.<\/p>\n

The couple’s ties with the Royal Family worsened until they stepped back in 2020 and moved to the United States. The late Queen was said to be especially “upset” by their bombshell allegations against the royals in interviews after their exit.<\/p>\n

In his tell-all book Spare, published in January 2023 following Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>‘s death, Harry reflects: “I’ll forever support my Queen, my Commander in Chief, my Granny. Even after she’s gone.”<\/p>\n

Harry makes it clear that his issue wasn’t with the monarchy itself or its existence but rather with the media and the toxic bond formed between it and the establishment.<\/p>\n

He expresses his enduring love for both his country and his family, stating: “I love my Mother Country, and I love my family, and I always will. I just wish, at the second-darkest moment of my life, they’d both been there for me.<\/p>\n
