{"id":168970,"date":"2025-06-09T01:02:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T01:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/168970\/"},"modified":"2025-06-09T01:02:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T01:02:10","slug":"britains-least-popular-boys-names-revealed-as-number-of-classic-monikers-die-out-is-yours-one-of-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/168970\/","title":{"rendered":"Britain&#8217;s least popular boys&#8217; names revealed as number of classic monikers die out &#8211; is yours one of them?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE name Roger is so unpopular that last year just as many boys were named Wolfgang.<\/p>\n<p>Only five boys in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/ENGLAND\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wales<\/a> were named Roger \u2014 as many as were given the popular German name.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Roger Moore, Gloria Hendry, and Jane Seymour in Live and Let Die.\" height=\"619\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Alamy\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/NINTCHDBPICT000799011638.jpg\" data-caption=\"Only five boys were named Roger last year (pictured: James Bond actor Moore)\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/NINTCHDBPICT000799011638.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>Only five boys were named Roger last year (pictured: James Bond actor Moore)Credit: Alamy<\/p>\n<p>The name, given to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/james-bond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Bond<\/a> actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/who\/sir-roger-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moore<\/a> in 1927, was the second least popular in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, bottom of the named tots list was Philip, given to just four, ONS figures show.<\/p>\n<p>Craig was fifth most unpopular, after Tyrone but just ahead of Gareth.<\/p>\n<p>Just 18 newborn boys were named Steven and 18 were called Derek.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the decline of classic names, blogger SJ Strum and online shop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/etsy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Etsy<\/a> found a quarter of adults would name their baby after a grandparent.<\/p>\n<p>About four in 10 would use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/fabulous\/8377362\/unisex-baby-names-rise-popular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gender neutral names<\/a> \u2014 like Stevie. <\/p>\n<p>SJ Strum said: &#8220;Name trends are constantly evolving over time, and names like Phil, Roger and Craig in particular have seen a big decline in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, new parents are searching for more playful and creative names that have unique meanings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m trolled over my kids&#8217; unique names &#8211; even the midwife questioned my choice<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/32897510\/sun-club-membership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sun Club<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE name Roger is so unpopular that last year just as many boys were named Wolfgang.
