The duties have hit Britain\u2019s steel exporters since <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/news\/195360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early March<\/a>, while carmakers have faced the sectoral duties since early April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deal is not implemented as it stands at the moment,\u201d Murray Paul, public affairs director at Jaguar Land Rover, told the U.K. parliament\u2019s Business and Trade Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, he said, is \u201cworking under the assumption\u201d that it will be reimbursed for any tariffs that it has paid the U.S. government backdated to May 8. \u201cWe need to know when the [Executive Order] will be signed for implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s \u2026 a limit [to] how much we can do in the background to absorb some of that pricing,\u201d JLR\u2019s Paul said, noting that price rises have been passed on to customers. The firm had paused its exports after Trump imposed the 25 percent tariffs in early April, but restarted U.S. shipments the weekend before Downing Street announced the deal. <\/p>\n<p>The 25 percent tariffs on British steel exports have proven \u201cextraordinarily difficult,\u201d Russell Codling, Tata Steel\u2019s director of markets and business development, told members of parliament.
