{"id":170231,"date":"2025-06-09T12:30:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T12:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/170231\/"},"modified":"2025-06-09T12:30:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T12:30:13","slug":"major-new-plan-to-transform-part-of-liverpool-city-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/170231\/","title":{"rendered":"Major new plan to transform part of Liverpool city centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The plans could transform a historic part of the city<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Fabric-Quarter-London-Road-featureLiverpoolPic-Andrew-Teebay.jpg\" alt=\"The area surrounding London Road, known as the Fabric District\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The area surrounding London Road, known as the Fabric District(Image: Andrew Teebay Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Major new plans could revamp a large area of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/liverpool-city-centre\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool city centre<\/a> and other parts of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The plans are aimed at improving the area of the city centre known as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/vibrant-part-liverpool-named-one-31318074\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Fabric District<\/a> &#8211; the historic heart of the city&#8217;s textiles trade that runs along and around London Road &#8211; with proposals for a new and improved public plaza, an outdoor events space and new footpaths and road crossings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As well as The Fabric District itself, the new vision will aim to provide better links between the city centre, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/university-of-liverpool\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Liverpool<\/a> campus and the Kensington area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Running along London Road and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/prescot\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Prescot<\/a> Street towards Low Hill, the planned scheme features improved footpaths and road crossings as well as new segregated cycle lanes. Also proposed are measures designed to reduce journey times for buses, such as new bus lanes and upgraded junctions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Developed jointly by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council, the proposal is to create an improved public plaza being created at Monument Place, with new seating areas, an outdoor events space and an open bandstand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The proposed scheme is designed to provide better, safer sustainable transport links between Lime Street and the Fabric District, as well as the University of Liverpool campus and Kensington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Fabric District is an improving district to the east of Liverpool city centre, and is a hub for independent businesses and cultural spaces. Over the past few years, the area has started to undergo a process of revitalisation and regeneration with the building of new commercial and residential developments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_fabric1.jpg\" alt=\"The Fabric District in Liverpool\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Fabric District in Liverpool(Image: unknown)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Simon O\u2019Brien, Walking and Cycling Commissioner for the Liverpool City Region said: \u201cThese are really ambitious plans to improve walking, cycling and bus links between Liverpool city centre, the lively Fabric District and beyond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe want to hear from the local community, as well as transport users more widely, about these proposals, so I encourage people to take part in this consultation and make their voices heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cllr Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity at Liverpool City Council, said: \u201cConsulting with the public is essential when planning and delivering public realm improvement works. Our streets, open spaces, and transport networks directly impact the lives of residents, businesses, and visitors, and their insights help shape spaces that are inclusive, functional, and beneficial for everyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBy listening and adapting plans based on public feedback, we ensure Liverpool\u2019s urban spaces meet the needs of today while creating a sustainable, welcoming environment for the future.
