{"id":170244,"date":"2025-06-09T12:37:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T12:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/170244\/"},"modified":"2025-06-09T12:37:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T12:37:15","slug":"almost-half-of-referrals-to-youth-trauma-service-come-from-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/170244\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost half of referrals to youth trauma service come from Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost half of all referrals to a trauma support programme for young people have come from Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>The SAFE Project, run by child and youth care charity Kibble, offers support to children and families affected by crime, including those who have witnessed violence or abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Since launching in 2021, SAFE has seen referrals triple, with 46 per cent coming from Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>Kibble said the high number of referrals in Glasgow highlights the link between crime, social inequality, and the need for trauma-informed services.<\/p>\n<p>Read more:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25224264.we-never-gave-up-familys-heartbreaking-tribute-body-missing-teen-found\/?rel=cl_lsa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:&#039;We never gave up\u2019: Family\u2019s heartbreaking tribute as body of missing teen found;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">&#8216;We never gave up\u2019: Family\u2019s heartbreaking tribute as body of missing teen found<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25224353.loads-new-homes-built-site-destroyed-glasgow-tower-blocks\/?rel=cl_lsa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Loads of new homes to be built on site of destroyed Glasgow tower blocks;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Loads of new homes to be built on site of destroyed Glasgow tower blocks<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25224172.rangers-make-decision-oumar-camara-andrew-cavenagh-takeover-impact\/?rel=cl_lsa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rangers make decision on Oumar Camara as Andrew Cavenagh takeover has impact;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Rangers make decision on Oumar Camara as Andrew Cavenagh takeover has impact<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Inverclyde;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Inverclyde<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/south-lanarkshire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:South Lanarkshire;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">South Lanarkshire<\/a> accounted for 24 per cent of referrals, followed by Renfrewshire and East Ayrshire.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Johnson, executive director and forensic psychologist at Kibble, said: &#8220;The trauma caused by crime in childhood can affect every part of a young person\u2019s life, from relationships and learning to their long-term mental health.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The SAFE Project is designed to wrap around the whole family, offering therapy, advocacy and practical support when it\u2019s needed most.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we\u2019re seeing is a level of unmet need that\u2019s both sobering and deeply motivating.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re proud that SAFE is already changing lives and that families from Glasgow to the Borders are finding their way to us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To date, the project has reached more than 400 young people and their families across 22 local authority areas in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the charity secured funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/scottish-government\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Scottish Government;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Scottish Government<\/a>\u2019s Victim-Centred Approach Fund to continue the SAFE Project into 2025\/26, with indicative support for 2026\/27.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Johnson said: &#8220;Supporting young people affected by crime isn\u2019t the responsibility of one service alone, instead it takes a network of professionals working together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That\u2019s why a core part of SAFE is helping educators, social workers and police navigate the impact of trauma.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By equipping those on the frontline with psychological insight and practical advice, we\u2019re building a more joined-up, trauma-informed system that can respond more effectively and compassionately to the needs of young victims and witnesses.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Almost half of all referrals to a trauma support programme for young people have come from Glasgow.
