A local MLA has described the discovery of human remains in a Co Down river as \u201cdeeply distressing\u201d for the community. <\/p>\n

Police confirmed the remains were found in the Ballyrobert Road area of Crawfordsburn on Saturday June 7. <\/p>\n

North Down DUP MLA Stephen Dunne expressed his shock and concern following the discovery. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is deeply distressing news for the local community. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time,\u201d Mr Dunne said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s important that the relevant authorities are given the space and time they need to carry out their enquiries.<\/p>\n

“If anyone has any information that could assist, I encourage them to contact the PSNI directly.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: \u201cIt is believed that the remains, which have been removed from the scene, had been in situ for some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnquiries are ongoing.
