Young people from Salford have been offered a received a valuable glimpse into an industry-leading scheme as part of a \u2018life-changing\u2019 training programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The scheme that is being led by Passivhaus welcomed 15 young people to a site in Little Hulton where 177 homes are being built.<\/p>\n

During the visit, the young people were welcomed to the active construction site, so that they can understand more about the industry, with participants on the day describing the experience as \u2018incredibly interesting\u2019.<\/p>\n

The 177-home development, at Longshaw Drive in Little Hulton,<\/a> is being delivered by Seddon, as is acting as part of Salford City Council\u2019s Build Salford programme.<\/p>\n

Build Salford offers a six-week traineeship programme for Salford residents between 16 and 24 years old who are interested in a career in the construction sector.<\/p>\n

Each of the young people were not in employment, education or training, and participants will get the industry verified CSCS Card and guidance to complete a Level One Health and Safety course.<\/p>\n

A key part of the programme is \u2018getting site ready\u2019, providing the young people with trade taster sessions, employer talks, site visits and employability classes.<\/p>\n

Those interested can also pursue a work placement \u2013 with several of the people taking part in the programme going on to secure apprenticeships or work.<\/p>\n

Lewis Welsby, Contracts Manager at Seddon Housing Partnerships, said: \u201cIt was fantastic to host these enthusiastic and inquisitive young people at our Longshaw Drive site in Little Hulton.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to be able to extend the offer to the next generation of construction workers. Build Salford is a life-changing programme and we are proud to partner with the City Council on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u00a338 million development is being constructed to Passivhaus principles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Passivhaus is a building standard which seeks to prioritise and enhance energy efficiency, resulting in homes requiring little to no energy consumption for heating and cooling. <\/p>\n

And as the UK aims to reach Net Zero by 2050, this standard is increasingly being adopted by councils and developers.<\/p>\n

The homes are part of Salford City Council\u2019s largest affordable housing scheme<\/a> for 50 years \u2013 with a total of 417 new council and community-owned homes will be built once the project is complete.<\/p>\n

Councillor Teresa Pepper, Lead Member for Skills and Work and Business Support Services, said: \u201cThis enthusiastic group of young people were offered the wonderful opportunity to visit a live construction site as part of the Build Salford Traineeship.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreen skills are vital to the future of the construction industry, helping us reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cllr Pepper continued: \u201cSite visits like this give trainees invaluable insight into modern methods of construction and the skills needed for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor many on the programme, this will be their first time on a construction site, and the experience has given them a real understanding of health and safety procedures and how to conduct themselves in a live working environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
