Starting next year, the honour will go to the country\u2019s northern powerhouse  \u2014 Manchester. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had a fantastic history in London for nearly 50 years, and we just feel that now is the time to make a bold leap into other parts of the UK to the fans,&#8221;  the CEO of the British Phonographic Industry, Dr Jo Twist, said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Manchester has such a rich musical heritage, and it has a fantastic ecosystem of support there on the ground, including lots of amazing grassroots venues,&#8221; Twist told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Isley, CEO of Sony Music U.K. &amp; Ireland added: \u201cMoving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/brits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BRITs<\/a> legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Known for its thriving music and cultural scene, as well as famous artists like Oasis and The Stone Roses, Mancunians are seemingly thrilled at the news that the coveted event is heading north. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCelebrating the Brit Awards right here in the home of 24 hour party people is the next chapter in its story and you can be sure that we will help them do it in style,\u201d said Manchester mayor Andy Burnham. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2202068533.jpeg\" width=\"5621\" height=\"3748\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"sc-eqUAAy kRUyJB\"\/><\/p>\n<p>AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>But the news has been met with a mixed response online, with some expressing happiness about the move, while other social media users are seemingly frustrated that the coveted event will no longer be held in the capital. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is absolutely BRILLIANT news!!!! I\u2019m so happy that the Brits are moving from London and SPREADING the music scene across the nation!!\u201d wrote a cheerful social media user. <\/p>\n<p>Another wrote: \u201cWe\u2019re buzzing for this!\u201d But not everyone seemed pleased. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s such a downgrade. Why have you moved? It was in London for a reason. It\u2019s the capital. Big artists are simply not going to go now,\u201d fumed one Twitter user, while another questioned: \u201cDo you really want to go to Manchester?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what do we know about the upcoming BRIT Awards?<\/p>\n<p>The BRIT Awards, sometimes referred to as the BRITs, are an annual music award event hosted by the British Phonographic Industry, which celebrates all things music in the UK. <\/p>\n<p>First hosted in 1977, the BRITs have now become the country\u2019s highest-profile music event, usually taking place around March in various London venues. <\/p>\n<p>A number of well-known musicians have earned themselves multiple BRIT Awards, including Adele and Coldplay.
