Members of the Unite union launched an all-out strike last month in a bitter dispute over pay and jobs, which has led to concerns over public health with rubbish piling up on Birmingham\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Prime Minister &#8211; who received a total of \u00a310,000 from the union ahead of last year\u2019s general election &#8211; is looking to find an end to the dispute and earlier this week urged those striking to accept an \u201cimproved deal\u201d. Writing to <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/labour-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Labour<\/a>, Kevin Hollinrake, who is <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/angela-rayner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ms Rayner<\/a>\u2019s opposite number as Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, expressed his concerns and wants to know whether she will return the money. \u201cRats the size of cats are roaming the streets. Rubbish is piling up at an astonishing rate,\u201d he said, according to <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/34437077\/rayner-union-cash-birmingham-bin-strike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Sun<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just a local scandal. It\u2019s a national embarrassment &#8211; and a public health emergency. The city is being held hostage by Unite. Unite has donated tens of millions to <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/labour-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/keir-starmer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> became leader, Labour has received over \u00a330million from the unions.
