Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> border czar Tom Homan<\/a> wrapped up a tense Monday morning interview on MSNBC by complaining that a \u201cvery dishonest\u201d NBC reporter had taken his threat to arrest<\/a> California Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> \u201cout of context,\u201d insisting that he was \u201cclear\u201d that he didn\u2019t feel the governor had \u201ccrossed the line\u201d yet during the fiery Los Angeles protests<\/a>.<\/p>\n With the demonstrations against the Trump administration\u2019s immigration raids growing increasingly volatile over the weekend, resulting in the president ordering the National Guard to \u201cliberate Los Angeles from the migrant invasion,\u201d<\/a> Homan told<\/a> NBC News\u2019 Jacob Soboroff that California Democrats could face apprehension if they interfered with ICE agents on the ground.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ll say it about anybody,\u201d Homan said when asked if this also meant Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass<\/a>. \u201cYou cross that line, it\u2019s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It\u2019s a felony to impede law enforcement doing their job.\u201d<\/p>\n At the same time, he said he wasn\u2019t specifically accusing any politician of impeding law enforcement and that when it came to Bass, he didn\u2019t believe \u201cshe\u2019s crossed the line yet.\u201d Still, he called Newsom an \u201cembarrassment for the state\u201d for providing \u201csanctuary for criminals,\u201d suggesting that the governor \u201cabout public safety in the state of California.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump would later double down on Homan\u2019s rhetoric, telling reporters on Sunday that any \u201cofficials who stand in the way of law and order\u201d will \u201cface judges.\u201d<\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Border czar Tom Homan complains that an NBC reporter took him “out of context” when he threatened to arrest Gavin Newsom and Jaren Bass if they “crossed the line” amid the Los Angeles protests over the Trump administration’s deportations. (MSNBC)<\/p>\n In a separate interview with the same NBC reporter<\/a>, Newsom fired back at Homan while taking issue with the Trump administration in general for further escalating tensions<\/a> in the region by deploying the military to face off against the protesters. <\/p>\n Calling Homan\u2019s bluff, Newsom told the Trump official to \u201cjust get it over with\u201d<\/a> and arrest him. \u201cHe\u2019s a tough guy. Why doesn\u2019t he do that? He knows where to find me,\u201d he added. \u201cThat kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite Trump blasting him to reporters and online, Newsom said that during a recent phone conversation about the large-scale protests, the president barely even brought the issue up and didn\u2019t express any concerns about Newsom\u2019s ability to handle the demonstrations. \u201cWe had a very decent conversation,\u201d the governor added.<\/p>\n Towards the end of his Monday interview on Morning Joe, which largely entailed<\/a> him defending the administration\u2019s response to the protests<\/a> and the deportation policies that sparked them<\/a>, Homan was asked to respond to Newsom\u2019s taunts. Instead of defending his remarks, the border czar blasted Soboroff and fumed that he never threatened to arrest the governor or Bass.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not biting on that,\u201d he grumbled to anchor Jonathan Lemire. \u201cThe NBC reporter that interviewed me is very dishonest. They can\u2019t cross that line. They can\u2019t cross that line of putting their hands on officers. They can\u2019t cross the line.\u201dAdding that \u201cconcealing an illegal alien\u201d is also a federal crime, he asserted that anyone guilty of that statute \u201cwill be prosecuted.\u201d At the same time, though, he insisted that he was only saying that it could include Bass and Newsom if they were involved in those activities.<\/p>\n \u201cI was clear they haven\u2019t crossed the line. But they\u2019re not above the law either,\u201d he declared. \u201cIf they commit a crime, they certainly will ask for prosecution. That\u2019s what was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n Homan concluded: \u201cI never threatened to arrest Gov. Newsom, so I\u2019m not biting off in that. It\u2019s just that reporter\u2019s dishonest and let them play the whole 20-minute interview, and you\u2019ll see a whole different discussion that we had.\u201dLemire, for his part, ended the discussion by noting that \u201cNBC News stands by the reporting.\u201d<\/p>\n This wasn\u2019t the first time Homan raged about Soboroff on Monday morning.
