David Beckham<\/a> appeared to be on the receiving end of a foul tirade from Liam Gallagher<\/a> on Monday, June 9, as the Oasis singer said he did not get “the fuss” over being awarded a knighthood. The timing of Gallagher’s outburst coincided with it being leaked over the weekend that that Beckham could finally be made a “Sir”<\/a> as part of King Charles’ birthday honours list.<\/p>\n

The 50-year-old was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003 and was reportedly first nominated for a knighthood in 2011. However\u00a0 Gallagher<\/a> didn’t seem impressed with Beckham’s reported exciting and long-awaited foray into high society, as he shared criticism of the move on his Twitter\/X page. The Wonderwall singer typed: “Don\u2019t know what all the fuss is about receiving a knighthood and being called SIR, all my teachers in school were called SIR and they were all massive C***S, dya get me bruv LG x.” (sic)<\/p>\n

In response to Gallagher’s unexpected comments, fans shared their hopes that one day the Manchester born singer would receive recognition from King Charles III.<\/p>\n

One typed: “Sir Liam Gallagher of Manchester sounds kinda good though, right?” Another replied: “Sir Liam Gallagher. Sounds wrong. Feels right. Let\u2019s make it happen!” While a third typed: “This is why you can\u2019t leave Twitter.”<\/p>\n

Beckham, who played 115 times for The Three Lions, has developed a close friendship with King Charles,\u00a0and the\u00a0monarch appeared to drop a potential hint last month that Beckham\u2019s wait was coming to an end.<\/p>\n

At the Chelsea Flower Show<\/a>, Charles saw he sported the King\u2019s rose in his lapel and asked him: \u201cYou got it, didn\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n

The football legend replied: \u201cIt was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speculation that the England legend was in line for a knighthood were raised when David and Victoria Beckham<\/a> attended a state banquet for the Emir of Qatar at Buckingham Palace in December.<\/p>\n

In June last year,\u00a0Sir Rod Stewart<\/a>\u00a0teased the former midfielder that his title was \u201ccoming soon\u201d in front of the King at a St James\u2019s Palace function.<\/p>\n

Of his joke at Beckham\u2019s expense, Sir Rod told reporters at the event: \u201cSomeone has to lighten the atmosphere in the room, you know \u2013 he\u2019s a good sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, it has been reported that due to the early announcement of the honour, which would be confirmed by The Gazette – the UK’s official public record in which the official Honours Lists are released alongside other public notices and information – David might end up missing out after all.<\/a><\/p>\n
