It\u2019s now called visionOS 26 to match <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/679221\/apple-ios-macos-watchos-ipados-26-name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple\u2019s new naming convention<\/a> for its mobile and desktop operating systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">One of the biggest additions is widgets that appear blended into physical environments, \u201cintegrating seamlessly into a user\u2019s space and reappearing every time they put on Apple Vision Pro\u201d in the exact same location. Users can customize a widget\u2019s frame width, color, and depth, and visionOS 26 is introducing several new widgets, including a Clock, Weather, Music that provides quick access to playlists, and Photos that displays \u201cstunning panoramas and spatial photos of their favorite memories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The Vision Pro was already compatible with Bluetooth accessories like keyboards, mice, and game controllers, but visionOS 26 now supports an actual VR-first accessory: the PlayStation\u2019s VR2 Sense controllers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/12\/8\/24316130\/apple-vision-pro-sony-psvr2-controller-support-gaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First mentioned last year<\/a>, VR controller support opens up options beyond standard console gamepads, making it possible to play more sophisticated VR or AR games and offering, in general, a more foolproof control system than Apple\u2019s eye- and finger-based tracking. <\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">A key feature that promises to improve the day-to-day use of the Apple Vision Pro is a new hands-free scrolling option. Previous versions of visionOS required users to pinch their thumb and index finger together to grab content and then drag it in either direction to scroll, or perform a pinch and flick gesture to scroll faster. visionOS 26 is introducing a new Look to Scroll feature, allowing \u201cusers to explore apps and websites using just their eyes\u201d with the option to adjust the speed of the scroll. Image: Apple<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Apple is also improving Personas in visionOS 26, making the hyperrealistic avatars \u201cfeel more natural and familiar.\u201d By leveraging \u201cindustry-leading volumetric rendering and machine learning technology,\u201d the new Personas will feature a full side profile view with \u201cremarkably accurate hair, lashes, and complexion.\u201d When creating a Persona, users will be able to preview how their avatar looks spatially and make adjustments as needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Apple has been positioning the Vision Pro as a way for remote family and friends to feel more connected while sharing spatial experiences, but with visionOS 26 those experiences can be shared with multiple Vision Pro users in the same room. You and a friend can enjoy a 3D movie while sitting on the same couch. The new update will also add support for \u201c180-degree, 360-degree, and wide field-of-view content from Insta360, GoPro, and Canon\u201d while Adobe will be releasing a new visionOS 26 app powered by Premiere that will allow users to create and edit spatial videos directly on the Vision Pro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The Apple Vision Pro\u2019s language support will expand to include French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish along with regional English support in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, and the UK.
