{"id":171355,"date":"2025-06-09T22:20:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T22:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171355\/"},"modified":"2025-06-09T22:20:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T22:20:09","slug":"queens-2025-why-are-there-no-line-judges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171355\/","title":{"rendered":"Queen&#8217;s 2025: Why are there no line judges?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">You might have noticed something missing from the courts at Queen&#8217;s Club this year &#8211; where have the line judges gone?<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A familiar sight around the edges of the courts for decades, the men and women who shout &#8220;out&#8221; and &#8220;fault&#8221; have been replaced by electronic line calling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Electronic line calling uses cameras, computers and sensors to track a ball and is used by tennis umpires to judge whether a ball is in or out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This season the men&#8217;s tour &#8211; the ATP &#8211; has adopted the technology across all of its events, while the WTA &#8211; the women&#8217;s tour &#8211; has also been using it at many of its events. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A combined men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s event, such as Queen&#8217;s, offers an easy opportunity for the technology to be used across the two tournaments. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The ATP said the move to electronic line calling was to &#8220;optimise accuracy and consistency across tournaments, match courts and surfaces&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/articles\/c0klklqr7dyo\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new women&#8217;s event at Queen&#8217;s<\/a> started on Monday, while the men&#8217;s tournament follows at the same venue a week later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"You might have noticed something missing from the courts at Queen&#8217;s Club this year &#8211; where have the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":171356,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4105],"tags":[79,1068,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-171355","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-sports","9":"tag-tennis","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114655738531371348","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/171355","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=171355"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/171355\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/171356"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=171355"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=171355"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=171355"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
