{"id":17168,"date":"2025-04-13T18:18:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T18:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/17168\/"},"modified":"2025-04-13T18:18:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T18:18:08","slug":"no-clarity-yet-on-reason-for-intermittent-issues-behind-yesterdays-upi-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/17168\/","title":{"rendered":"No Clarity Yet on Reason For \u2018Intermittent Issues\u2019 Behind Yesterday&#8217;s UPI Outage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>New Delhi:<\/strong> A day after many people experienced problems making transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), it is unclear what caused the \u201cintermittent technical issues\u201d that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) suffered and which were responsible for the UPI outage.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>Many individuals and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/paywall-upi-outage-hits-users-across-the-country\/articleshow\/120241983.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">businesses<\/a> reported experiencing failed UPI transactions on Saturday (April 12).&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>The Downdetector website, which displayed the number of outage reports it received regarding the UPI every 15 minutes over a 24-hour period, said it logged <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.in\/status\/unified-payments-interface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 2,300 reports<\/a> at 1:01 pm on Saturday.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>The NPCI said shortly afterwards that it was <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NPCI_NPCI\/status\/1910961688016474590\">facing \u201cintermittent technical issues\u201d<\/a> that led to \u201cpartial UPI transaction declines\u201d and that it was \u201cworking to resolve the issue\u201d.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>Later, on Saturday night, it <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NPCI_NPCI\/status\/1911108893121646628\">said<\/a> that UPI services stabilised in the \u201clate afternoon\u201d.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience,\u201d the corporation said on X, although it did not reveal what the intermittent issues it faced were or what caused them.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s outage was preceded by two similar instances in the last three weeks.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>The NPCI on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NPCI_NPCI\/status\/1907457693826326671\">April 2<\/a> said there had been \u201csome intermittent declines in UPI due to fluctuations in the success rates in some banks\u201d, and on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NPCI_NPCI\/status\/1904914309278556257\">March 26<\/a> it reported facing \u201cintermittent technical issues owing to which UPI had partial decline\u201d.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2016, the UPI is a popular payment system developed by the RBI-regulated NPCI that facilitates the instant transfer of money between two bank accounts via phone numbers and QR codes.&gt;\n<\/p>\n<p>Today the interface processes over 13 billion real-time transactions a month and accounts for 36% of India\u2019s consumer spending, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/01\/09\/india-rupay-upi-payment-push-is-cutting-out-visa-and-mastercard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Techcrunch<\/a> cited an analysis by the Bernstein asset management firm as saying.&gt;
