{"id":171694,"date":"2025-06-10T01:20:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T01:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171694\/"},"modified":"2025-06-10T01:20:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T01:20:10","slug":"doctors-prescribing-poo-pills-for-very-exciting-new-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171694\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors prescribing &#8216;poo pills&#8217; for &#8216;very exciting&#8217; new treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we dreamt of a magic pill that could cure anything, we weren\u2019t thinking of poo pills \u2014 also known as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/22\/poo-pills-called-crapsules-may-treat-deadly-liver-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crapsules<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But these little capsules packed with freeze-dried fecal matter have recently shown promise in treating everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/04\/health\/poop-pill-could-be-breakthrough-for-cancer-with-only-10-survival-rate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advanced cancer<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/22\/poo-pills-called-crapsules-may-treat-deadly-liver-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadly liver disease<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Some even say <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/17\/health\/fecal-transplants-cured-football-coachs-stage-3-bowel-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fecal transplants<\/a> \u2014 in which the poop of a healthy person is transferred into someone else \u2014 could be the key to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/23\/poop-pill-could-be-the-secret-to-crushing-it-at-the-gym\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crushing it at the gym<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/04\/fecal-transplants-are-latest-anti-aging-hack-poo-pill-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reversing some signs of aging.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36188171\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/researcher-doctor-hand-probiotic-capsules-13045321.jpg\" alt=\"doctors handing out poop pills\" class=\"wp-image-36188171\"  \/>Researchers are testing to see if \u201ccrapsules\u201d can uproot antibiotic\u2010resistant bacteria hiding in patients\u2019 guts. Getty Images\/iStockphoto<\/p>\n<p>Now, UK researchers are testing whether capsules containing freeze\u2011dried stool from healthy donors can uproot antibiotic\u2010resistant bacteria hiding in patients\u2019 guts.<\/p>\n<p>Translation? Someone else\u2019s s\u2013t could save you from a superbug. <\/p>\n<p>In the trial, 41 patients who had recently battled drug\u2011resistant infections were split into two groups.<\/p>\n<p>One received three sets of these poo pills over three days, while the other was given placebos.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36188227\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/106189541.jpg\" alt=\"Gloved hand holding a Petri dish with bacterial cultures.\" class=\"wp-image-36188227\"  \/>Superbugs \u2014 germs that are resistant to antibiotic treatment \u2014 are expected to cause up to 39 million deaths globally by 2050.
