The US Open is one of the hardest tests in golf, and at Oakmont, it\u2019ll be even tougher.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A star-studded field will assemble in Pennsylvania later this month for the 125th\u00a0playing of the famous tournament.<\/p>\n

From Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus, the legends of the game have claimed glory in the event.<\/p>\n

But down the years, a number of unsung heroes have also got their hands on the trophy, including Graeme McDowell, Geoff Ogilvy, Martin Kaymer and more recently Matt Fitzpatrick and Gary Woodland.<\/p>\n

With Oakmont providing the sternest of tasks, winning the US Open this year will be extra difficult<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As such, we could see a name from lower down the bookies\u2019 lists pull off a memorable victory.<\/p>\n

Shane Lowry 35\/1<\/a><\/p>\n

While without a win this year, Lowry is one of the most in-form players in the world right now.<\/p>\n

He has come second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Truist Championship this year and also had impressive weeks at the Valspar Championship, the Arnold Palmer and The Masters.<\/p>\n

He also led the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday before falling away late on and unfortunately, a few bad Sunday finishes have put paid to Lowry\u2019s chances of victory this year.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll now be looking to put together a full week of top-class play to make sure he\u2019s in contention for the second major title of his career.<\/p>\n

Lowry will also have fond memories of returning to Oakmont – he led the 2016 US Open at the iconic venue before a final day 76 let Dustin Johnson take glory.<\/p>\n

Sepp Straka 45\/1<\/a><\/p>\n

Straka is enjoying a stunning breakout year.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old Austrian had had to wait for his chance at success, but he\u2019s taking it with both hands now.<\/p>\n

He has won The American Express and Truist Championship this year and has three other top ten finishes.<\/p>\n

However, Straka\u2019s fine form has not translated into the majors as he has missed the cut in both The Masters and the PGA Championship this summer.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019ll be hoping to replicate his brilliant PGA Tour play at Oakmont and take the next big step in his career.<\/p>\n

\"Spieth<\/a><\/p>\n

Spieth won the US Open back in 2015Jordan Spieth 55\/1<\/a><\/p>\n

Spieth is nearly back to his 2015 best and would love to prove that at this year’s US Open.<\/p>\n

The American claimed major glory at the infamous Chambers Bay event<\/a> a decade ago but has struggled in his home open since.<\/p>\n

Like Lowry, he hasn\u2019t tasted victory this year but has been knocking on the door at a host of tournaments throughout the season.<\/p>\n

He played well at The Masters in April and had a sniff of victory at Memorial.<\/p>\n

Spieth will also have an eye on the Ryder Cup qualification standings ahead of the event at Bethpage Black later this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Harris English 90\/1<\/a><\/p>\n

Another man in red-hot form, English is quietly having a stellar season, which could see him make Team USA\u2019s Ryder Cup side come September<\/a>.<\/p>\n

English finished T2 at the PGA Championship, T12 at The Masters and has five other top 20 finishes this year.<\/p>\n

His best week came with victory at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in January.<\/p>\n

Torrey Pines is, of course, a US Open venue and English was third when the tournament was last held there in 2021.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old has never claimed major glory, but his play this year proves he is still more than capable of competing at the very highest level.<\/p>\n

2022 Open champion Smith has somewhat disappeared from the golfing limelight since his controversial move to LIV Golf.<\/p>\n

The Australian was one of the very best in the world a few years ago when he followed up glory in The Players by beating Rory McIlroy to the Claret Jug at St Andrews.<\/p>\n

But his move to LIV has signalled a downturn in fortunes, especially in the majors, missing the cut in his last three events.<\/p>\n

However, his last big showing in a major was at the 2023 US Open, and he has performed well in LIV in recent months.<\/p>\n

Smith will now be eager to remind the golfing world of his talents at Oakmont with at least a top ten finish.<\/p>\n

Nick Taylor 150\/1<\/a><\/p>\n

There has never been a Canadian winner of the US Open and Taylor will be out to change that.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old has won some huge events in recent years including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Pheonix Open and his home event, the RBC Canadian Open.<\/p>\n

While he is creating a fine career for himself as a late bloomer, he is yet to show up at a major.<\/p>\n

But he is in good form at the moment and will hope to show his best of the biggest stage at Oakmont.<\/p>\n
