{"id":171701,"date":"2025-06-10T01:28:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T01:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171701\/"},"modified":"2025-06-10T01:28:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T01:28:09","slug":"former-grand-slam-champion-claims-roger-federer-is-wrong-and-tennis-has-been-given-a-sobering-warning-by-jannik-sinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171701\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Grand Slam champion claims Roger Federer is wrong and tennis has been given a &#8216;sobering warning&#8217; by Jannik Sinner"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Roger Federer is one of the most iconic stars in the world of tennis, and what he doesn\u2019t know about the sport isn\u2019t worth knowing. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federer<\/a> won 20 Grand Slam titles during his career, with eight of those coming at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> \u2013 a record in the men\u2019s game. <\/p>\n<p>After yesterday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a> final between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a>, the tennis world has been awash with praise for both players and the match itself. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/roger-federer-and-coco-gauff-both-send-messages-to-carlos-alcaraz-after-he-takes-the-roland-garros-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federer lauded Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> after his superb comeback victory and in the process, claimed that it was a stunning day for the game of tennis as a whole. <\/p>\n<p>Another former Grand Slam champion doesn\u2019t agree, however\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2219196078-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"2025 French Open - Day Fifteen\" \/>Photo by Clive Brunskill\/Getty ImagesPaul McNamee thinks Roger Federer is wrong about Alcaraz vs Sinner claim<\/p>\n<p>Tennis fans are just getting their breath back after a frantic finale to a wonderful French Open, but Federer\u2019s claim has been met with some angst. <\/p>\n<p>McNamee isn\u2019t convinced that Alcaraz beating Sinner is a good thing for tennis, especially at a tournament which is played on clay. <\/p>\n<p>With Federer\u2019s comments clearly being put in front of the former Grand Slam doubles winner, he\u2019s gone against what the Swiss legend said. <\/p>\n<p>He posted on X: \u201cSo many, including Fed, saying tennis was the winner. Yet, when a guy playing linear power tennis can go within a breath of beating a player with such flair, power and artistry\u2026on the greatest of clay courts, for me, that\u2019s a sobering warning to ask where we\u2019re heading as a sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The clay court season has now drawn to a close, and players will start getting to grips with the grass ahead of Wimbledon, which starts at the end of the month. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So many, including Fed, saying tennis was the winner. Yet, when a guy playing linear power tennis can go within a breath of beating a player with such flair, power and artistry\u2026on the greatest of clay courts, for me that\u2019s a sobering warning to ask where we\u2019re headed as a sport?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Paul McNamee (@PaulFMcNamee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PaulFMcNamee\/status\/1931998645114609757?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>View Tweet<\/p>\n<p> Sinner and Alcaraz will form a rivalry for many years to come<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday offered tennis fans a glimpse of the future\u2026and it\u2019s hard not to be excited!<\/p>\n<p>McNamee is suggesting that Sinner has no right to get anywhere close to Alcaraz on clay, and perhaps the rackets used these days do level things up a little bit. <\/p>\n<p>However, this is sport in a nutshell, and surely nobody can argue that they didn\u2019t enjoy the drama of the 2025 edition of the French Open final. <\/p>\n<p>Each to their own, and although McNamee is entitled to his opinion, it\u2019s hard to really grasp what can be done to combat the \u2018sobering warning\u2019 that he says the game has got with the style that Sinner possesses on court. <\/p>\n<p>Sinner deserves a little bit more respect.
