{"id":171948,"date":"2025-06-10T03:45:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T03:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171948\/"},"modified":"2025-06-10T03:45:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T03:45:13","slug":"find-out-whats-coming-up-at-liverpools-epstein-theatre-over-the-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/171948\/","title":{"rendered":"Find out what&#8217;s coming up at Liverpool&#8217;s Epstein Theatre over the Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liverpool\u2019s Epstein Theatre is set to welcome new and favourite shows over the summer ahead of its official autumn season launch.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences have flocked to the Epstein Theatre since it reopened its doors in April following a two-year closure.<\/p>\n<p>Now it is preparing to stage a select series of productions between June and August including toe-tapping musical evenings, laugh-out-loud comedy and fantastic footballing stories.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Bird and Paul Daley\u2019s\u00a0On the Banks of the Royal Blue Mersey, coming to the Epstein\u00a0on Thursday and Friday, 26-27 June, is a laugh-out-loud celebration of Everton past, present and future.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"945\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/The-Epstein-Theatre-auditorium-resized.jpg\" alt=\"Epstein Theatre - Credit David Munn\" class=\"wp-image-217221\"  \/>Epstein Theatre \u2013 Credit David Munn<\/p>\n<p>Follow the highs and lows of the \u2018People\u2019s Club\u2019 over its 147-year history, from its first home at Anfield to the present day, and all the iconic and memorable moments along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Then afternoon cabaret show\u00a0Dancing in the Aisles\u00a0returns to the Epstein auditorium\u00a0on Sunday,\u00a029 June, promising an afternoon of unmissable entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The show is hosted by popular Liverpool actor\u00a0Joe Speare\u00a0and the fabulous line-up features\u00a0Ukebox\u00a0\u2013 the world\u2019s first ukulele boyband, Britain\u2019s Got Talent star ventriloquist\u00a0Jamie Leahey,\u00a0the soul man\u00a0Steve Charles\u00a0and singer\u00a0Rachel Chambers\u00a0(X Factor), while there will also be post-show entertainment in the bar.<\/p>\n<p>Step inside the theatre to\u00a0Surround Yourself with Cilla\u00a0on\u00a0Saturday, 5 July\u00a0courtesy of Liverbird Victoria Jones who brings the spirit of the Scottie Road songbird back to the Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Expect all those classic hits, including Anyone Who Had a Heart, Love of the Loved and Alfie, as the audience is taken on a musical mystery tour from the cloakroom of the Cavern on, with Victoria supported by a brilliant live band.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile\u00a0Something About Lennon, which comes from Liverpool\u2019s Something About Productions, will mark the end of its inaugural nationwide tour at the Epstein Theatre on\u00a0Sunday, 6 July.<\/p>\n<p>The production features a five-strong band, led by\u00a0West End performer and musician Daniel\u00a0Taylor, and tells the fascinating story of the late Beatle legend, underscored by some of his best-known, best-loved hits.<\/p>\n<p>Demand has been so great for tickets for this acclaimed show since it was announced that\u00a0an extra matinee performance\u00a0has now been added on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0Friday, 18 July, share\u00a0Hillsborough \u2013 One Boy\u2019s Story of a Tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Originally published as a book, Shaun Millea\u2019s powerful story of family, loss and grief, centres on little Frankie whose dad goes to the match and doesn\u2019t come home. It is brought to life on stage by a seven-strong cast and directed by Kevin Cubbin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Epstein-Theatre-Image-Credit-David-Munn-e1745834902583.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219269\"\/>Epstein Theatre Image \u2013 Credit David Munn<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0Saturday, 26 July\u00a0the action moves to the\u00a0Epstein Bar\u00a0for The\u00a0Laugh for Life Comedy Showcase\u00a0\u2013 a chance to catch some stand-up stars of the future now with debutante comedians from the L4LC course performing their own routines ahead of appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u00a0Are You Ready for Love?\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday, 31 July\u00a0when the brilliant Charles Michael Duke presents his Elton John Tribute show on the Epstein\u2019s main stage.<\/p>\n<p>Duke, who brings an uncanny resemblance to the legendary singer-songwriter along with attention to detail, has performed across the globe, and now Liverpool audiences have a chance to enjoy all those Sir Elton John classics including Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer and Your Song.<\/p>\n<p>And on\u00a0Sunday, 24 August\u00a0Tina vs Whitney\u00a0brings the stunning catalogue of two superstar singing sensations together in one afternoon\u2019s entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Speare returns to the Epstein to present\u00a0Jina Barrows\u00a0in the spectacular musical tribute to two true icons. And the afternoon also features special guest\u00a0Linzdi Germain.<\/p>\n<p>The summer programme comes ahead of a full autumn schedule which will be launched with a\u00a0special Gala Night on Friday, 19 September \u2013 Brian Epstein\u2019s birthday \u2013featuring local acts and celebrities.<\/p>\n<p>The Grade II listed landmark has new leaseholders and a new management team which is promising a busy programme of entertainment which reflects the theatre\u2019s century-long role as the home of local talent, national touring productions, music, comedy and pantomime.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of its formal reopening,\u00a0\u00a31 million is being invested in the venue with\u00a0extensive refurbishment works\u00a0including refitting the stage with new lighting, stage cloths and sound, and improving the backstage areas.<\/p>\n<p>The theatre\u2019s bar has also been remodelled as part of the work, and a full programme of music and comedy events in the bar on non-show days is set to be announced.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/The-Epstein-Theatre-resized.jpg\" alt=\"The Epstein Theatre\" class=\"wp-image-128994\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The Epstein started life in 1915 as the\u00a0Crane Concert Hall, situated above the Crane brothers\u2019 music emporium in Hanover Street.<\/p>\n<p>The venue was renamed the\u00a0Crane Theatre\u00a0in 1938, and in 1967 the lease was taken over by the then Liverpool Corporation. Following refurbishment of the auditorium, including the stage, it reopened the following year as the\u00a0Neptune Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>A long-time favourite of local amateur drama groups along with visiting performers and comedians, the venue was closed in 2005 due to health and safety concerns. When it reopened its doors in 2011, following a \u00a31.2 million upgrade, it gained its current name \u2013\u00a0the Epstein Theatre\u00a0\u2013 in honour of the late Brian Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein Theatre General Manager Anthony Proctor said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been an amazing buzz about the venue since the Epstein reopened its doors two months ago, not only from Liverpool audiences who have come to see shows in our beautifully restored auditorium but also among local and national promoters who are interested in bringing shows here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a great selection of shows during the summer months which I know will appeal to lots of different theatregoers, and we\u2019re currently busy putting the finishing touches to the new autumn schedule which will officially relaunch the Epstein with a real bang.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are also plans to host some great music and comedy events in the Epstein theatre\u2019s stunning refurbished bar on non-show days.
