Prior to Scotland\u2019s 4-0 win over Liechtenstein last night, the national side had won just one of their last 13 fixtures.<\/p>\n<p>And to combat that, Celtic hero Scott Brown has told the Scotland boss that there is a player at Parkhead right now that could change their fortunes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"673\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-1387527779-1024x673.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-233832\" \/>Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty ImagesScott Brown tells Scotland they need Celtic captain Callum McGregor \u2018back\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/callum-mcgregor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Callum McGregor<\/a> retired from international football over a year ago and it has been to the benefit of Brendan Rodgers.<\/p>\n<p>The Celtic captain had flourished last season <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/the-spfl-sums-up-how-every-celtic-fan-feels-about-callum-mcgregors-scotland-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">without the rigours of Scotland duty<\/a> but Brown reckons his country really need McGregor now.<\/p>\n<p>Brown told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/articles\/cvgdyln970xo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BBC<\/a>, \u201cThe pairing of Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay is one that\u2019s got to flourish. You know what you\u2019re getting with John McGinn. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cClarke likes Kenny McLean because of his experience. Ryan Christie is favoured as a 10, too, so there are plenty of legs in there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the perfect scenario is to get Callum McGregor back. He is the one that ticks all the boxes. He can sit, he can go forward. I know he is retired but that is what Scotland are looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Callum McGregor\u2019s impressive Scotland record as Celtic fans will reject return<\/p>\n<p>There will barely be a single Celtic supporter who would welcome McGregor reversing his Scotland retirement.<\/p>\n<p>McGregor is benefiting from longer rest periods and since he hung up his Scotland boots, his goalscoring return at Celtic has increased.<\/p>\n<p>However, that doesn\u2019t take away from the fact that the Celtic captain still had an impressive Scotland career:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links multi\">\n<li>Appearances: 63<\/li>\n<li>Goals: 3<\/li>\n<li>Tournament appearances: Euro 2020 (3) &amp; Euro 2024 (3)<\/li>\n<li>Biggest win: Scotland 6 v 0 San Marino \u2013 13.10.2019<\/li>\n<li>Most important win: Scotland 2 v 0 Spain \u2013 28.03.2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At 31, McGregor is nearing the end of his career and adding Scotland duty will only accelerate that process. Whilst Brown\u2019s comments are complimentary, Celtic fans will say, \u2018Thanks, but no thanks.\u2019<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"International football isn\u2019t for every Celtic fan.
