Police have issued an update after a man was left fighting for life following an assault. Emergency services were called to The Hare and Hounds on Cronton Road in Huyton<\/a> at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, June 3.<\/p>\n It followed reports of a fight, and when officers <\/a>arrived they found a man in his 30s who had suffered a head injury and he was taken to hospital. In an update today (June 10), police confirmed the man remains in a critical condition.<\/p>\n Following the incident a 47-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and a 47-year-old man from Whiston was arrested on suspicion of section 39 common assault. Merseyside Police confirmed today both men have been bailed pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n Merseyside Police<\/a> said the pub remained closed the day after the incident so officers could speak to witnesses and gather evidence. Detectives said they believe a private function was taking place at the time of the fight.<\/p>\n Eyewitnesses said the pub was cordoned off and forensic officers were also spotted at the scene.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said at the time: \u201cAt this early stage, we are appealing to any witnesses to the incident.
