It\u2019s also triggered a domino effect: the policy will soon be tested at other top tourist destinations, including the Arc de Triomphe or the Conciergerie (both managed by the National Monuments Center), the Ch\u00e2teau de Chambord in the Loire Valley, and Paris\u2019s Op\u00e9ra Garnier. The funds might go toward mending cracked pools, neglected groves, or leaking rooftops. At Chambord, where non-EU tourists account for just 10 percent of admissions, officials are nonetheless considering raising prices from \u20ac19 to \u20ac29\u2014because the chateau needs \u201c\u20ac100 million for renovations over 10 years, including \u20ac25 million for the Fran\u00e7ois I wing, which we can\u2019t fund with our current revenue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMeanwhile, the Louvre itself is facing a staggering \u20ac400 million ($450 million) in repair needs over the next 15 years. According to a leaked letter from director Laurence des Cars, published by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leparisien.fr\/culture-loisirs\/avaries-degradations-saturation-le-rapport-confidentiel-qui-alerte-sur-letat-du-musee-du-louvre-22-01-2025-VHQGISLZM5D4ZBALW3KURS44VI.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Le Parisien<\/a>, much of the building is no longer watertight and suffers from erratic climate conditions that jeopardize the collection. President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/emmanuel-macron\/\" id=\"auto-tag_emmanuel-macron\" data-tag=\"emmanuel-macron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emmanuel Macron<\/a> has pledged a sweeping restoration, but insiders say the government is unlikely to foot the full bill. The \u20ac30 ticket is expected to raise \u20ac20 million per year toward those renovations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tStill, not everyone in the museum world is applauding. \u201cThink about what this symbolizes,\u201d said one Louvre curator, speaking anonymously to\u00a0Le Monde. \u201cCan you imagine charging an Iraqi more than a Belgian to see the Code of Hammurabi, which comes from Iraq? Charging Africans extra so they can view, at the Pavillon des Sessions, objects that their countries might one day ask to have restituted?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe pricing strategy is legally limited to visitors from non-EU countries, since European Commission rules guarantee equal access to cultural institutions for EU citizens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe policy has drawn backlash from French unions as well.
