The first transfer window of the summer has shut – with Manchester United<\/a> still working on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo.<\/p>\n

The Reds are pursuing a move for the Brentford forward and have seen an initial offer knocked back. United are still in talks with the Bees over a move for the Cameroon international but it won’t be confirmed imminently with the initial summer window now closed.<\/p>\n

Clubs were this year given an extra period to conclude transfers to allow clubs competing in the newly-expanded Club World Cup, which starts this weekend, to add to their squads.<\/p>\n

That avenue is now closed off having run for 10 days and shut on Tuesday at 7pm. But the main transfer window opens next week and will run until September 1, when it will close at the earlier time of 7pm rather than the more traditional 11pm. The Premier League have brought the deadline forward by four hours to help provide a better work-life balance to staff employed in football.<\/p>\n

United did exploit the early window by concluding a deal for Wolves striker Mathues Cunha. He has agreed a move to Old Trafford<\/a> after United met his \u00a362.5million release clause.<\/p>\n

The Reds are confident of landing Mbeumo this summer but missed out on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. The 22-year-old had a release clause of \u00a330million following the Tractor Boys’ relegation to the Championship but he has opted to join Chelsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

United have been keen to strengthen their frontline after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored just 17 goals between them in all competitions last term.<\/p>\n

United could also sign a new goalkeeper, a right wing-back and a midfielder, depending on outgoings. Alejandro Garnacho will likely depart Old Trafford this summer while United will try and offload Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho after the trio returned from loan spells.<\/p>\n

United<\/a> finished 15th in the Premier League<\/a> last season and won’t play European football after losing the Europa League<\/a> final to Tottenham.<\/p>\n
