Flying into London<\/a> can be an exhilarating experience. Catch the city on a cloudless day (or night) and you\u2019ll be picking out the capital\u2019s countless identifiable landmarks<\/a> through the plane\u2019s mucky oval window, from the City of London\u2019s skyscrapers and the River Thames to Wembley Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Any Londoner knows that the city\u2019s approach in an airplane can be magical \u2013 and that fact has just been confirmed by a new list of the world\u2019s most beautiful airport landings by travel insurance provider AllClear<\/a>. The company apparently ranked the planet\u2019s top airplane approaches with \u2018eye-tracking\u2019 technology \u2013 and no, we don\u2019t really know what that means either.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However the list was calculated, the\u00a0big news is that a London airport made the cut. None other than London City Airport<\/strong>\u00a0featured in the top 15, coming fifth. AllClear described City as offering \u2018one of the world\u2019s most unique and exciting landings\u2019, saying that \u2018landing here is a memorable experience\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And we wouldn\u2019t disagree with any of that. In fact, this author landed at London City just last week, and can attest that the views are phenomenal. Swooping in from west to east, above the Thames, City\u2019s approach boasted views of pretty much every central London landmark.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, why exactly is London City\u2019s landing so spectacular? For starters, it\u2019s closer to the centre of town than any other London airport. That means planes come in low over much of the city centre and get particularly close-up views of City of London and Isle of Dogs skyscrapers.<\/p>\n

AllClear\u2019s list was topped by Lord Howe Island Airport in Australia<\/a>\u2019s Tasman Sea, and you can find the full 15 top airport landings in the world here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
