Former Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant has started work as Huddersfield Town boss \u2013 and pulled off an Old Trafford raid.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manchester United<\/a> fans really took to Lee Grant<\/a> following his 2018 move from Stoke City.<\/p>\n

The signing of a backup goalkeeper \u2013 and a third-choice one at that \u2013 rarely receives much fanfare.<\/p>\n

United snapped up Grant as competition for David De Gea and Sergio Romero, but he failed to make a single Premier League appearance at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Grant played just twice in all competitions but became popular with fans during his four-year stay at Old Trafford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Grant retired in 2022<\/a> and joined Kieran McKenna\u2019s coaching staff at Ipswich Town, before taking a managerial role of his own.<\/p>\n

Grant has been appointed Huddersfield Town boss<\/a> as he takes his first step into management.<\/p>\n

The former goalkeeper will look to take the Terriers forward from League One, with promotion to the Championship the aim.<\/p>\n

Grant has now formed his coaching staff \u2013 and has managed to raid United in the process.<\/p>\n

Reports suggested Grant wanted to snap up Paul McShane from United<\/a>, having crossed paths at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Irishman McShane was a youngster at United as a player before returning as a player-coach back in 2021.<\/p>\n

McShane was serving as a Professional Development Phase coach at United but he is now on the move to join Grant at Huddersfield.<\/p>\n

The Terriers have confirmed on their official website<\/a> that McShane is one of three coaches brought in to work alongside Grant.<\/p>\n

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Jonathan Robinson have also joined Huddersfield, with Grant delighted to land all three.<\/p>\n

Manchester United could make coaching changes<\/strong><\/p>\n

McShane is not the only United coach moving on this summer.<\/p>\n

David Hughes has left United<\/a> in order to become the new manager of League Two side Newport County.<\/p>\n

Hughes served as Under-21 assistant coach at Old Trafford, before being lured to South Wales.<\/p>\n

Losing both Hughes and McShane means United will be eyeing changes to the coaching setup in the development phase.<\/p>\n

That could be coaches being promoted through the ranks or new coaches being hired over the course of the summer.<\/p>\n

Seeing Hughes and McShane leave is a blow for United, but should also be viewed as a compliment.<\/p>\n

The pair have impressed enough with their coaching in the United ranks that they are being headhunted for other positions.<\/p>\n
