{"id":174507,"date":"2025-06-11T02:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T02:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/174507\/"},"modified":"2025-06-11T02:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T02:28:10","slug":"us-and-china-agree-on-framework-on-trade-at-london-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/174507\/","title":{"rendered":"US and China agree on &#8216;framework&#8217; on trade at London talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON (AP) \u2014 The U.S. and China have agreed in principle on a framework to carry out an agreement they reached on resolving their trade disputes last month, Chinese state media said.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement followed Tuesday\u2019s conclusion of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-china-trade-talks-london-e9e87d76a81a5e51294368308d5af47d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two days of talks<\/a> in London.<\/p>\n<p>The earlier agreement had been shaken by a series of disputes in the ensuing weeks, leading to a phone call last week between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to try to calm the waters.<\/p>\n<p>Li Chenggang, a vice minister of commerce and China\u2019s international trade representative, said the two sides had agreed in principle on a framework for implementing the consensus reached between the two leaders and at talks in May in Geneva, the official Xinhua News Agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Further details, including plans for a potential next round of talks, were not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>Li and Wang Wentao, China\u2019s commerce minister, were part of the delegation led by Vice Premier He Lifeng. They met with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer at Lancaster House, a 200-year-old mansion near Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\n<p>Lutnick said as he arrived Tuesday morning that the talks were \u201cgoing well,\u201d and he expected them to continue all day.<\/p>\n<p>Asked late Monday how the negotiations were going, Trump told reporters: \u201cWe are doing well with China. China\u2019s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two sides sought to build on <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-trump-trade-tariffs-bessent-economy-71a6e410a0e5771c70ac853563a8b75d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negotiations in Geneva last month<\/a> that agreed to a 90-day suspension of most of the 100%-plus tariffs they had imposed on each other in an escalating trade war that had sparked <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-tariff-economy-recession-china-imports-trade-8d90bb37735e833c43a7b7a9d5a0b9a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fears of recession<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Geneva talks, the U.S. and China have exchanged angry words over advanced semiconductors that power artificial intelligence, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/chinese-exclusion-act-student-visas-us-80fb4551d4d1139b29f6cbc4d172603a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visas for Chinese students<\/a> at American universities and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/rare-earths-trump-tariffs-china-trade-war-effd6a7ec64b5830df9d3c76ab9b607a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rare earth<\/a> minerals that are vital to carmakers and other industries.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-china-xi-tariffs-negotiations-trade-f2e4b48205001d7169ee34250089d8c1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke at length<\/a> with Chinese leader Xi Jinping by phone last week in an attempt to put relations back on track, then announced the trade talks <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-china-xi-jinping-trade-81af927e3003610bbad7d84a154c6354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would resume<\/a> in London. <\/p>\n<p>China, the world\u2019s biggest producer of rare earths, has signaled it may ease export restrictions it placed on the elements in April, alarming automakers around the world who rely on them.
