T\ufeffhe Duchess of Sussex<\/a> will no longer make a red carpet appearance at a museum gala this weekend due to ongoing unrest in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Meghan was scheduled to \ufeffattend the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles’ Night of Wonder event, where she was to be honoured for her work championing women and underserved communities.<\/p>\n

But the gala has now been postponed.<\/p>\n

\ufeffMeghan’s appearance was also due to coincide with the royal family’s biggest event<\/a> of the year, Trooping the Colour.<\/p>\n

On Saturday King Charles and Queen Camilla \ufeffwill appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children in celebration of the sovereign’s official birthday.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan were included in Trooping the Colour just twice during their time as senior working royals, in 2018 and in 2019.<\/p>\n

They returned to the event in 2022, which also marked the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, but were not included in the public celebrations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The royals, lead by the King and Queen, will make their balcony appearance after watching a military spectacle at the nearby Horse Guard’s Parade.\ufeff<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Duchess of Sussex was scheduled to walk the red carpet in Los Angeles and give a speech inside.<\/p>\n

That will now take place at a later date due to protests \ufeffover immigration raids in downtown LA.<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump is sending another 2000 National Guard troops<\/a> along with 700 Marines to the city to deal with the unrest.<\/p>\n

Protests over federal immigration raids have sprung up in cities across the US in the past few days, with violent clashes taking place in LA.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the museum said now was not the time for celebrations.<\/p>\n

“As an institution ‘of, for, and with Los Angeles,’ our responsibility during challenging times is clear: to serve as a community resource focused on healing and unity, not celebration,” the museum’s president Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga, said.<\/p>\n

“Los Angeles needs us to channel our energy toward supporting our neighbours and demonstrating the values that make our city and county strong.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, \ufeffBettison-Varga said Meghan had been chosen as “a native Angeleno, whose work to advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity \u2013 especially for underserved communities \u2013 aligns with our equity-focused approach to developing science literacy for the next generation”.<\/p>\n

In January, the duchess was forced to postpone the launch of her Netflix series<\/a> With Love, Meghan due to devastating wildfires across LA.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The release of the eight-part series was moved to March \ufefffollowing a joint decision between the streaming giant and the duchess.<\/p>\n
