St Helens have confirmed that yet another player is set for time on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Red Vee saw their season fall apart in 2024 due to injuries and they\u2019re starting to derail their 2025 campaign as well, which was already on shaky ground.<\/p>\n Saints sit sixth in Super League but they\u2019re level on points with seventh-placed Wakefield and the pressure has been mounting at the club.<\/p>\n Recent long-term injuries to Jack Welsby (16 weeks) and Lewis Murpy (8 weeks)<\/a> look set to put a strain on their backs and that issue has been worsened with confirmation now that centre Mark Percival will miss the next five to six weeks.<\/p>\n Percival has been doing it tough of late but the club have confirmed that he reached the point where he had to undergo surgery on an ankle issue, the recovery from which will sideline him for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n Mark Percival the latest St Helens player to suffer injury<\/p>\n A club statement confirmed the news with the surgery taking place earlier this week.<\/p>\n St Helens confirmed that it was for a \u201cbone spur in his ankle\u201d with the recovery timeline set at five to six weeks, meaning he could be back for the home game against Leigh Leopards in Round 19.<\/p>\n Speaking on the blow, Paul Wellens said: \u201cIt is really unfortunate that it has happened now because we have had a cluster of injuries around the same time, which is not ideal. But Mark had got to the point where something needed doing if he was going to be able to finish the season strongly so we had to make a strong call there, albeit a disappointing one.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou can never question Mark\u2019s toughness \u2013 but he has been uncomfortable there for a while and there was a strong thought that we would be able to manage it throughout the course of the year. That has proved not to be the case now. He was feeling the pain and we had it re-investigated and had to come to a decision moving forward and there was only one decision \u2013 get it fixed.<\/p>\n \u201cHe has been having this problem for a while and having this procedure done will almost certainly alleviate those problems moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n St Helens had confirmed that fellow centre Konrad Hurrell had left on loan to join Bradford Bulls<\/a> in a bid to return to full match fitness.<\/p>\n The Saints can confirm that Mark Percival has had a procedure for a foot injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for five to six weeks<\/p>\n We wish Mark a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in action soon<\/p>\n Read more \ud83d\udc47#COYS<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 St.Helens R.F.C.
