If not quite slammed shut, then certainly it has been put to for a bit. The first of this summer’s two transfer windows concluded on Tuesday evening having been open since June 1 to allow those competing in the controversial FIFA Club World Cup to make changes to their squads.<\/p>\n
With FIFA rules stating the window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, it will now remain closed for the next six days before reopening next Monday until the final deadline on September 1 at 7pm.<\/p>\n
While not featuring in the United States this summer, Liverpool<\/a> have been among those taking advantage of the early start to transfer business. The most prominent has seen the Reds trigger the \u00a329million release clause of Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen to sign the 24-year-old right-sided Holland international.<\/a><\/p>\n The other deal saw the Reds bolster their goalkeeping options by taking 20-year-old Armin Pecsi from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia in a \u00a31.5m deal.<\/a><\/p>\n Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive at Liverpool next month after a \u00a329m deal was agreed with Valencia last year for the Georgia international goalkeeper.<\/a><\/p>\n Heading out has been Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Real Madrid signing the right-back a month before he was due to become a free agent and taking over the remainder of his contract in a package worth around \u00a310m to Liverpool.<\/a><\/p>\n Caoimhin Kelleher has also called time on his Anfield<\/a> career by joining Premier League<\/a> side Brentford with the Reds recouping up to \u00a318m for the Republic of Ireland international.<\/a><\/p>\n Seven Academy players have also been released,<\/a> including midfielder Dominic Corness, defender Lee Jonas and goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski.<\/p>\n Deals ongoing<\/strong><\/p>\n Much of the concentration has been on Liverpool’s attempt to broker a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.<\/p>\n The 22-year-old attacking midfielder wants a move to the Reds with talks having been ongoing for approaching a fortnight between the clubs over what could end up being a British record deal.<\/p>\n Liverpool’s latest bid was \u00a3100m guaranteed with \u00a313m of adds-ons, although Leverkusen are still determined to seek their \u00a3125m asking price.<\/a> Talks continue between the two clubs as the Reds look to strike a final agreement.<\/p>\n
