two Birmingham schools &#8211; partly due to \u201cfinancial challenges\u201d &#8211; have been put forward for public consultation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham City Council<\/a> said it had received a request to amalgamate Beeches Junior School and Beeches Infant School, two separate schools which operate on the same site in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/great-barr\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Great Barr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If approved, the infant school would be \u2018discontinued\u2019 while Beeches Junior School would be \u2018enlarged\u2019 and become a single primary school with a pupil age range of four to 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <\/strong><a noises<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">According to the council, the main reasons for the amalgamation are the financial challenges at the school and falling roll, which is the number of pupil places which are unfilled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201c<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> has experienced falling demand for primary school places in recent years because of falling birth rates,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But it acknowledged there was an increase in housing being built around the two schools which may increase demand for school places in the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe city is also seeing potential growth because of international resettlement programmes,\u201d it said. \u201cThis proposal does not reduce the number of pupil places that would be offered because of the amalgamation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe school would offer a combined total of 90 places in reception.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" viable, which is the same for any school where there has been falling demand for pupil places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council said the amalgamation would offer \u201cmore flexibility\u201d in managing admission numbers in the future, if required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Benefits that the governing bodies of the schools believed will be achieved through amalgamation include a \u2018consistent ethos and vision\u2019, simplified communication between school and parents, opportunities for career development and continuity for pupil\u2019s learning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe governing bodies believe that, as a single school, there would be benefits to flexibility and stability of the finances as a single primary school,\u201d the council document went on to say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On how pupils could be affected, it said all current infant school pupils would have the right to automatically transfer to the amalgamated school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Of the potential impact on staff, the document said it recognised change could be \u201cunsettling\u201d and there may be \u201cchallenges along the way\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: children,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe proposed changes will consider duplication of shared rolls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAny staff reductions because of the amalgamation will be with full consultation with the individual employees and relevant trade unions and teaching associations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Following consultation, a report will be presented to the council\u2019s cabinet member for children, young people and families, with the final decision deadline window being December 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If the proposal is approved, the changes could be implemented from September 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The cost of any internal alterations to the buildings will be met by the school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If the proposal is rejected, Beeches Infant School and Beeches Junior School would continue to operate as two separate schools under two governing bodies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Birmingham
