Rory McIlroy has admitted that the course at Oakmont can be ‘impossible’ as he prepares to play at the US Open later this week.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old will be hoping to secure his second major of the year, having won the Masters back in April.<\/p>\n

Ever since that remarkable triumph, however, McIlroy’s form has dropped off a cliff.<\/p>\n

The veteran toiled at the PGA Championship and recently failed to make the cut at the Canadian Open, much to his frustration.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the US Open, McIlroy has admitted that the course at Oakmont can be ‘impossible’ – which doesn’t bode well as he looks to turn his form around.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad we have spotters up there because I played last Monday just in Druck\u2019s (member Stanley Druckenmiller) outing, and you hit a ball off the fairway and you were looking for a good couple of minutes just to find it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very penal if you miss. Sometimes it\u2019s penal if you don\u2019t miss. <\/p>\n

“But the person with the most patience and the best attitude this week is the one that\u2019s going to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely been a little bit of rain since I played.<\/p>\n

“Last Monday felt impossible. I birdied the last two holes for 81. It felt pretty good. It didn\u2019t feel like I played that bad.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s much more benign right now than it was that Monday. They had the pins in dicey locations, and greens were running fast. It was nearly impossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you put it in the fairway, it\u2019s certainly playable. But then you just have to think about leaving your ball below the hole and just trying to make as many pars as you can.<\/p>\n

“You get yourself in the way of a few birdies, that\u2019s a bonus.\u201d<\/p>\n

McIlroy isn’t the only player to express some concerns about the course.<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau, the defending champion, has admitted that it’s the ‘toughest golf course in the world right now’.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cYou have to hit the fairways, you have to hit greens, and you have to two-putt, worst-case scenario.<\/p>\n
