A HISTORIC building is set to be completely transformed into stunning studio flats.<\/p>\n

The A-listed Mercat building in Glasgow<\/a>‘s Trongate has had several uses over the years, including for retail<\/a> and office space.<\/p>\n

But now developers have revealed exciting plans for 44 flats over six floors. <\/p>\n

The new look site will also contain a stunning rooftop garden. <\/p>\n

Planners say the building is starting to “show signs of dilapidation” and that “emergency work and early intervention is critical”.<\/p>\n

The ground-floor retail unit will be scrapped and replaced with further living space.<\/p>\n

A planning<\/a> report reads: “In 2025 there is little demand for commercial units above ground level, and limited demand for larger ground floor premises.<\/p>\n

“At upper levels, the high ceilings and large street-facing windows allow for greater penetration of daylight which should facilitate the subdivision of upper floors into suitably sized flats.<\/p>\n

“At ground level, the high ceiling level should also facilitate the introduction of a raised ground floor to improve resident privacy.”<\/p>\n

In recent years, however, the historic site has become a notorious gathering place for Celtic<\/a> fans attending unofficial title parties. <\/p>\n

It comes after police chiefs blasted the club and council bosses<\/a> for failing to organise a fanzone.<\/p>\n

Inverlair Lodge in Roy Bridge, in the Highlands, is nestled between the Cairngorms National Park and the Great Glen.<\/p>\n

The historic six-bedroom\u00a0property<\/a>\u00a0dates back to the 19th century and was once the shooting lodge of Lord Abinger of Inverlochy Castle.<\/p>\n

Inverlair Lodge was used by the Special Operations Executive during\u00a0WWII<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The organisation was formed in 1940 to carry out covert duties, including espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance.<\/p>\n
