{"id":177183,"date":"2025-06-12T01:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T01:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/177183\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T01:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T01:52:09","slug":"reaction-dynamics-prepares-for-takeoff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/177183\/","title":{"rendered":"Reaction Dynamics prepares for takeoff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2013 With funding from the Quebec government and private investment, Canadian launch startup <a href=\"https:\/\/reactiondynamics.space\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reaction Dynamics<\/a> is completing development and preparing to qualify its RE-202 hybrid rocket engine.<\/p>\n<p>The money gets us \u201cto the point where we can fly,\u201d Bachar Elzein, Reaction Dynamics CEO and chief technology officer, told SpaceNews.<\/p>\n<p>First up is a suborbital launch later this year, followed by an orbital flight in 2027 or 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Quebec\u2019s government <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/quebec-backs-canadian-launch-startup-reaction-dynamics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awarded<\/a> $8 million Canadian dollars ($5.86 million) to Reaction Dynamics and $2 million to software developer Maya HTT, the Canadian firm providing simulation tools and software for Aurora, Reaction Dynamics\u2019 rocket to send 200-kilogram payloads to low-Earth orbit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"438\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/rsz_img_9491.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-519154\"  \/>Quebec Premier Fran\u00e7ois Legault alongside government leaders and Reaction Dynamics employees during the June 9, 2025, announcement of funding  for the Canadian launch startup.  Credit: Reaction Dynamics<\/p>\n<p>Replenishing Constellations<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/small-launch-vehicles-press-ahead-despite-market-setbacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Like many startups<\/a> established in recent years, Reaction Dynamics seeks \u201cto change the overall launch paradigm by offering our customers responsive launch services with rapid turnaround time,\u201d Elzein said. \u201cOur focus is ultra-responsive launch, the ability to replace a satellite within a few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What makes Reaction Dynamics different from many competitors is its hybrid engine. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you address the performance and scalability issues, you benefit from a hybrid rocket motor with less than 10 parts,\u201d said Elzein, a combustion-dynamics researcher who shares rocket-engine <a href=\"https:\/\/patents.google.com\/?q=(bachar+elzein)&amp;oq=bachar+elzein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">patents<\/a> with Maxime Goulet-Bourdon, Reaction Dynamics chief operating officer, and Miguel Gagnon, a Reaction Dynamics founder. <\/p>\n<p>The Aurora engine also relies on propellants that can be stored at room temperature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can have the rockets fueled and ready to go, if you want to launch a satellite fast or from a concealed position rather than a big spaceport,\u201d said Elzein.<\/p>\n<p>Sovereign Capability<\/p>\n<p>After years of working in relative obscurity, Reaction Dynamics is benefiting from growing <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/as-foreign-nations-look-forsovereign-eyes-in-the-skyu-s-satellite-firms-focus-abroad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">international demand<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/nations-pursue-sovereign-space-capabilities-fortified-by-commercial-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sovereign<\/a> capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the company\u2019s inception, we have been saying Canada should have its own sovereign launch capabilities,\u201d Elzein said. \u201cIf a country cannot control its access to space, it\u2019s very hard to benefit from the space economy overall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent events, including <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/musk-trump-dispute-includes-threats-to-spacex-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threats<\/a> by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft, have fueled widespread concern about lack of competition in the global launch market.<\/p>\n<p>Staying Lean<\/p>\n<p>One reason Reaction Dynamics, founded in 2017, is still operating when other launch startups have failed, is frugality, Elzein said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you build up the ability to be efficient with capital, prioritize and focus, it shows,\u201d Elzein said. \u201cThen, when you achieve progress, that will get the attention of investors and government funding.
