{"id":177686,"date":"2025-06-12T06:25:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T06:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/177686\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T06:25:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T06:25:10","slug":"dormice-reintroduced-at-bradgate-park-to-boost-population","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/177686\/","title":{"rendered":"Dormice reintroduced at Bradgate Park to boost population"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Volunteers will monitor the dormice daily over a 10-day period, topping up food and water while the animals adjust to their new surroundings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">During this time, the dormice will remain in mesh enclosures before being released to forage for themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As they settle in, they are expected to begin breeding and dispersing into surrounding woodland and hedgerows. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Volunteer Hazel Edwards, who helped prepare the site, said: &#8220;A couple of weeks ago we started setting up large open cages in the woods so the dormice would acclimatise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;From today, we&#8217;ll feed and care for them daily. The cages are filled with fresh hazel twigs, water, and food. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;After about 10 days, we&#8217;ll open the cages, and they&#8217;ll move into nesting boxes we&#8217;ve placed nearby.
