made the transition onto grass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Roland Garros 2025 is a tournament that will be remembered for years to come, as the stars of the ATP and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA Tours<\/a> put on a show in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/martina-navratilova-delivers-reaction-as-coco-gauff-defeats-aryna-sabalenka-to-win-french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> in a tense clash to win her maiden French Open title.<\/p>\n<p>One day later, the men contested an instant classic on Court Philippe Chatrier, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/what-juan-carlos-ferrero-warned-carlos-alcaraz-about-jannik-sinner-ahead-of-the-french-open-final-starting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz fought back from two sets down to beat Jannik Sinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-100804\" \/>Photo by Andy Cheung\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s natural to look ahead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> with excitement, when Grand Slam tennis will resume, but there\u2019s plenty of action to get on with before then.<\/p>\n<p>Two American stars have kicked off their grass-court campaigns with big wins and have now assessed their performances.<\/p>\n<p>Madison Keys admits she was \u2018jealous\u2019 women didn\u2019t get to play at Queen\u2019s before 2025<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since 1973, women will compete at this year\u2019s Queen\u2019s Club Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Entering the event as the number two seed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/madison-keys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madison Keys<\/a> is being tipped by many to become the tournament\u2019s first female champion since Olga Morozova lifted the trophy 52 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>During her on-court interview following her first-round win, Keys admitted she used to be \u2018jealous\u2019 watching the men play at Queen\u2019s when there was no women\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-101425\" \/>Photo by Dan Istitene\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always been jealous because I\u2019ve watched the guys play here and they always talk about how amazing it is to play at Queen\u2019s, so being able to be here is absolutely amazing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo happy that we have a women\u2019s tournament here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keys beat Russian youngster Anastasia Zakharova in her opener 6-3, 6-2, and explained what was \u2018challenging\u2019 about the match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFeeling pretty good, always tough to play your first match on the grass, especially against someone who\u2019s already played a few matches, but overall, pretty happy, and happy that I get another match here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not very often that I haven\u2019t played someone these days, it\u2019s a little challenging to play someone for the first time, especially on the grass when they\u2019ve had matches, so the first couple of games I was just trying to find my footing, once I did, I feel like I played really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-101437\" \/>Photo by Dan Istitene\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Open<\/a> champion went on to give her verdict on grass courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved playing on the grass, and have won a few titles on it. I would love to be able to add this to the list, hopefully,\u201d said Keys.<\/p>\n<p>Keys has played three finals on grass throughout her career, winning all three.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links multi\">\n<li>2014 Eastbourne International F \u2013 Madison Keys beat Angelique Kerber<\/li>\n<li>2016 Birmingham Classic F \u2013 Madison Keys beat Barbora Strycova<\/li>\n<li>2023 Eastbourne International F \u2013 Madison Keys beat Daria Kasatkina<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>She has, however, yet to enjoy a standout performance at Wimbledon, failing to reach the semi-finals in each of her ten visits to the All England Club.<\/p>\n<p>Keys will certainly hope a strong showing at Queen\u2019s can give her the momentum she needs to make an impact at SW19 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The world number eight will return to take on either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/katie-boulter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Katie Boulter<\/a> or Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals on Friday, June 13.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Fritz reveals what people keep saying that makes him feel \u2018very old\u2019 in Stuttgart<\/p>\n<p>Another American to kick off his grass season with a win was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Fritz<\/a>, who beat Quentin Halys 6-3, 7-6 in Stuttgart.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the match, Fritz noted both players served well in a tight second-round clash.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think just coming out first game he served, I played a really good game to get a break, outside of that, nothing really changed the rest of the match,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe served really well, I served well, we both did a good job taking care of our serves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was big for me to save two break points in the second, and then the tiebreaker was kind of the same way it was going the whole match.
