The very first film which will welcome audiences back to the newly renovated Filmhouse Edinburgh will be Giuseppe Tornatore\u2019s\u00a0Cinema Paradiso\u00a0<\/strong>(1988).<\/p>\n

Filmhouse has always shown different films from mainstream cinemas in town, and its new programme for the first weeks shows it will be no different. The long-awaited reopening is now only a couple of weeks away after the two and a half year closure \u2013 and cinema goers may now book tickets.<\/p>\n

Rod White, Programming Director of Filmhouse, said:\u202f\u201cLooking into the films that simply didn\u2019t make it on to Edinburgh cinema screens at all during Filmhouse\u2019s closure only hammered home the need for it in this great City of Culture. It\u2019s been tough \u2013 whilst Filmhouse was closed \u2013 to watch some brilliant films come and go from cinemas without being able to offer a venue to watch them in\u2026 The good news is, Filmhouse has never been a better place to watch a film (and talk about it afterward!) than it is today and we simply cannot wait to welcome everyone back, or, for the first time!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The hand-picked programme will include Filmhouse patron actor, Jack Lowden, in a film by Edinburgh based filmmaker Matt Palmer. This will be a free double-bill of the gutsy thriller Calibre<\/strong>(2018) starring Lowden and Tony Curran alongside Palmer\u2019s hit horror\u00a0Fear Street: Prom Queen\u00a0<\/strong>(2025) which debuted at No.1 on Netflix on its release earlier in the year and will have its first ever public cinema screening at Filmhouse. <\/p>\n

Matt will also take part in a Q&A after the screening.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lotte Reiniger\u2019s classic feature length paper cut animation\u00a0The Adventures of Prince Achmed\u00a0<\/strong>(1926)will screen in a special event soundtracked with live music by Edinburgh based musical improvisers and innovators\u00a0S!nk\u00a0<\/strong>in a transportive performance filled with swirling, spiralling strings, saxophones, accordion, percussion and voices.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also screening at the cinema are a selection of recent acclaimed films from around the world from new and established filmmakers including Payal Kapadia\u2019s soulful\u00a0All We Imagine As Light<\/strong>, S\u00e9bastien Marnier\u2019s thrilling\u00a0Origin of Evil<\/strong>, Christian Petzold\u2019s riveting\u00a0Afire<\/strong>,\u00a0Gints Zilbalodis\u2019s enchantinganimation\u00a0Flow<\/strong>, Hlynur P\u00e1lmason\u2019s nuanced drama\u00a0Godland<\/strong>, Alice Rohrwacher\u2019s radically adventurous film\u00a0La Chimera<\/strong>, Maryam Moghadam & Behtash Sanaeeha\u2019s joyous\u00a0My Favourite Cake,<\/strong>Mario Martone\u2019s brilliantly shot\u00a0Nostalgia<\/strong>, Rodrigo Sorogoyen\u2019s tense thriller\u00a0The Beasts<\/strong>, Ilker \u00c7atak\u2019s uncompromising\u00a0The<\/strong>\u00a0Teachers\u2019 Lounge<\/strong>, Alexandre de La Patelli\u00e8re & Matthieu Delaporte energetic take on\u00a0Count of Monte Cristo<\/strong>, Manuela Martelli\u2019s compelling noir\u00a01976,<\/strong>\u00a0V\u00edctor Erice\u2019s mysterious\u00a0Close Your Eyes<\/strong>, Robert Zemeckis\u2019s\u00a0Here\u00a0<\/strong>and Celine Song\u2019s acclaimed\u00a0Past Lives<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

70mm engagements at the cinema will include Brady Corbet\u2019s award-winning\u00a0The Brutalist<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and Christopher Nolan\u2019s epic\u00a0Oppenheimer\u00a0<\/strong>alongside\u00a0Robert Egger\u2019s\u00a0Nosferatu<\/strong>\u00a0on 35mm.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

On opening weekend, audiences can also enjoy Martyn Robertson\u2019s acclaimed new film\u00a0Make It To Munich<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0an inspiring documentary which follows 18-year-old Ethan Walker, who just months after nearly losing his life in an accident, embarks on a 1200km cycle ride to Munich for Scotland\u2019s Euros opening game against Germany.\u00a0Ethan himself will attend a special Q&A screening on Filmhouse\u2019s opening day, alongside the film\u2019s director Martyn Robertson and\u00a0former Motherwell, Chelsea, Everton and Scotland winger Pat Nevin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In total once all four screens are open there will be 340 seats \u2013 all of which are new and have more legroom. The foyer has been reorganised to become a more welcoming space.<\/p>\n

The completely refurbished Filmhouse Bar will be able to seat 100 people for lunch and dinner, with drinks available throughout the day, catering for the many communities who enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, and placing an emphasis on produce from Edinburgh and Scotland, offering great food and drink alongside environmental sustainability. Filmhouse fans will be pleased to know that the cinema\u2019s world-famous nachos are staying on the menu.<\/p>\n

Over the next few months, Filmhouse will once again partner with many of Scotland\u2019s film festivals offering a fabulous space in which to welcome their audiences, alongside technical and marketing packages\u00a0French Film Festival UK<\/a>,\u00a0Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival,<\/a>\u00a0Take One Action!<\/a>,\u00a0Edinburgh Short Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Iberodocs Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0amongst many others.\u202f\u202fAlongside this, the cinema will also screen events such as National Theatre Live for the first time, with more details to be confirmed in the coming months.\u202f\u202fDetails of Filmhouse\u2019s involvement with this year\u2019s Edinburgh International Film Festival are yet to be announced.<\/p>\n
