A car struck a 64-year-old man and wiped out a bus stop<\/p>\n

A man who died when a car ploughed into a bus stop before hitting a building in a horror crash in south Manchester has been named.<\/p>\n

Emergency services swarmed Slade Lane on Monday evening (June 9) after a car hit a man, a pedestrian aged 64, before striking a bus stop and a shop<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police were called out to the scene at 8.10pm and a large cordon was put in place. Paramedics and fire crews also attended the incident.<\/p>\n

The man tragically died a short time after the collision, Greater Manchester Police<\/a> said. The victim has now been named as Abul Kalam.<\/p>\n

Officers arrested a 78-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has since been released on bail.<\/p>\n

Images from the scene the following morning showed how the bus stop wrecked following the smash, near to the junction with Portland Road, along with the outside of a nearby shop. Shattered glass could be seen on the ground, alongside fire service cordon tape.<\/p>\n

Slade Lane was taped off on Monday night, with a huge cordon put in place, while part of nearby Stockport<\/a> Road was also blocked, with the police tape stretching over the Slade Lane Community Garden as horrified onlookers watched on.<\/p>\n

A GMP spokesperson previously said: “At around 8.10pm last night, emergency services were called to a collision between a pedestrian and a car on Slade Lane. It is believed that a collision has occurred between a pedestrian, a car, and nearby street furniture.<\/p>\n

“The car shortly after came to a stop near the junction with Portland Road. Sadly, the pedestrian, aged 64, died shortly after.<\/p>\n

“The driver, a woman aged 78, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She remains in custody for questioning.<\/p>\n

“Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has any other information to please come forward. This includes anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area.”<\/p>\n

Witnesses are being urged to come forward by calling 101 or visiting the GMP website, quoting log 3283 of June 9, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n
