The 2025 US Open promises to be another thrilling as Oakmont Country Club hosts the third major of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Golf\u2019s top events are on a hot streak, with the run of all-time classic tournaments continuing with Scottie Scheffler\u2019s dramatic win at the PGA Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It followed on from Rory McIlroy\u2019s historic Masters success<\/a> and now the world-famous Oakmont will be the perfect stage for another blockbuster week.<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion<\/a> following his spectacular 1-stroke win over McIlroy at Pinehurst a year ago.<\/p>\n

Scheffler, McIlroy and DeChambeau are once again among the favourites in Pennsylvania as more drama awaits.<\/p>\n

Much of the talk this week has been about how hard Oakmont will be to play but it’s now time for golf’s biggest stars to walk the walk. <\/p>\n

US Open 2025: Date and how to follow<\/p>\n

The 125th edition of the US Open will run from Thursday, June 12, to Sunday, June 15.<\/p>\n

It is taking place at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The weather in Pittsburgh is expected to be warm and sunny over the opening two days but thundery showers are expected over the weekend which could cause delays.<\/p>\n

The action will get underway at 11:45am UK time over the opening two days and at 1pm over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The US Open will be contested by a maximum field of 156 players and will include a cut after the second round is complete.<\/p>\n

Unlike the other majors, the US Open does not offer lifetime exemptions to previous champions, meaning only winners back to Jordan Spieth\u2019s victory in 2015 automatically qualify.<\/p>\n

Tiger Woods<\/a> will not be in action as he continues his rehab after undergoing Achilles surgery in mid-March.<\/p>\n

Ryan Fox beat Sam Burns in a play-off at the Canadian Open on Sunday to claim the final spot in the field.<\/p>\n

Qualifying ran throughout May and June with a host of spots up for grabs for players all around the world.<\/p>\n

Guido Migliozzi, Edoardo Molinari and Jordan Smith qualified from the event at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey while big names to qualify from other events included Matt Wallace, Carlos Ortiz, Emiliano Grillo and Erik van Rooyen.<\/p>\n

The prize fund is yet to be confirmed but will likely be slightly more than the $21.5million on offer last year. DeChambeau took home $4.3m as the winning champion.<\/p>\n

US Open 2025: The Course<\/p>\n

The course at Oakmont<\/a>, designed by Henry Fownes in 1904 and renovated by Tom Fazio and Gil Hanse since, will measure a maximum yardage of 7,342 yards and be a par 70.<\/p>\n

It is one of the oldest and most prestigious courses in the United States and ranks among the hardest.<\/p>\n

Oakmont is famous for its huge sloping greens, heavy bunkering and brutal rough – a true US Open test.<\/p>\n

It includes the iconic Church Pew Bunker<\/a> that comes into play on the 3rd and 4th holes. The bunker is 100 yards long and includes twelve grass-covered ridges, which make lies highly unpredictable.<\/p>\n

The course will boast some dauntingly long holes as players face the 632-yard par-5 12th, the 507-yard par-4 15th and the 289-yard par-3 8th, which will become the longest par-3 in US Open history.<\/p>\n

Being a par 70, there are only two par-5s on the course, both over 600 yards long, meaning scoring low will be extremely tough and Oakmont chiefs are eager to have the winning score be over par.<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy says he has to \u2018get his stuff together\u2019 as he looks to shake off his Masters hangover at the US Open this week.<\/p>\n

Asked if he knew how tough it would be to regain his motivation, he said: “I didn’t know. Look, you dream about the final putt going in at the Masters, but you don’t think about what comes next.<\/p>\n

“I think I’ve always been a player who struggles to play after a big event, after I win whatever tournament.<\/p>\n

“I always struggle to show up with motivation the next week because you’ve just accomplished something and you want to enjoy it and you want to sort of relish the fact that you’ve achieved a goal.<\/p>\n

“I think chasing a certain goal for the better part of a decade and a half, I think I’m allowed a little bit of time to relax a little bit.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s trying to have a little bit of amnesia and forget about what happened six weeks ago. Then just trying to find the motivation to go back out there and work as hard as I’ve been working.<\/p>\n

“But at the same time, you have to enjoy what you’ve just accomplished. I certainly feel like I’m still doing that and I will continue to do that.<\/p>\n

“At some point, you have to realise that there’s a little bit more golf left to play this season: here, Portrush (the Open), Ryder Cup, so those are obviously the three big things that I’m sort of looking at for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

“I sort of need to get my stuff together here and get back to the process of what I’d been doing for that seven months from October last year until April this year.”<\/p>\n
