{"id":178986,"date":"2025-06-12T18:02:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T18:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/178986\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T18:02:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T18:02:15","slug":"eu-taps-ylva-johansson-to-be-special-envoy-for-ukrainians-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/178986\/","title":{"rendered":"EU taps Ylva Johansson to be special envoy for Ukrainians \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission last month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-extends-temporary-protection-ukrainian-refugees-long-term-fix-russia-war-invasion-commission-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extended temporary protection<\/a> for the roughly 4.3 million displaced Ukrainians who have\u00a0found refuge in the EU since Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion in February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The EU executive also announced its plan to either transition Ukrainian refugees into permanent legal arrangements or facilitate their return home, and will launch \u201cunity hubs\u201d \u2014 information centers run jointly with Ukraine that will provide guidance on integration and returning home.<\/p>\n<p>The special envoy\u2019s role will be to \u201cenhance coordination, represent the interests of Ukrainians, and implement practical support tools, including the development\u201d of the centers, Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-extends-temporary-protection-ukrainian-refugees-long-term-fix-russia-war-invasion-commission-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has long\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ukraine-refugee-back-home-germany-war-russia-oleksiy-chernyshov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eyed repatriating its people<\/a> as its war with Russia grinds on.
