The usage of the federal government\u2019s Employment Insurance<\/a> (EI) work-sharing program has increased by approximately 75% since November 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to government data shared with Bloomberg News, more than 790 arrangements<\/a> were active as of June 8. Employers in Ontario and Quebec make up nearly 90% of the current arrangements.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, the program in a way camouflages the current economic uncertainty, but it is necessary,\u201d Samuel Poulin, parliamentary assistant to Quebec\u2019s economy minister, said in an interview.<\/p>\n

\u201c[The EI work-sharing program] saves jobs that would otherwise be lost, and companies are clear about that.\u201d<\/p>\n
