{"id":179190,"date":"2025-06-12T19:55:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T19:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/179190\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T19:55:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T19:55:12","slug":"larry-holmes-exposes-heavyweight-legend-as-the-biggest-fraud-in-boxing-everybody-knew-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/179190\/","title":{"rendered":"Larry Holmes Exposes Heavyweight Legend As &#8216;The Biggest Fraud&#8217; In Boxing: &#8220;Everybody Knew It&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/larry-holmes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Larry Holmes<\/a> remains one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever laced up the gloves.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Easton Assassin\u2019 rose to prominence during the seventies, reigning as the world heavyweight champion for seven years between 1978 and 1985.<\/p>\n<p>After defeating Ken Norton to capture the WBC heavyweight title, Holmes would go on to make no less than 16 successful defences of his crown, defeating the likes of Earnie Shavers, Trevor Berbick and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/muhammad-ali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Muhammad Ali<\/a> during his reign.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/larry-holmes-on-george-foreman-ability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One man he never ended up crossing paths with during his tenure is \u2018Big\u2019 George Foreman<\/a>, although it was once reported that an agreement had been in place for the heavyweight greats to lock horns.<\/p>\n<p>Foreman won world honours for the first time in 1973 when he knocked out Joe Frazier inside just two rounds. After taking a ten year break from the sport between 1977 and 1987, \u2018Big\u2019 George made a sensational comeback before eventually becoming the oldest heavyweight champion ever when he beat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/espn\/classic\/news\/story?id=2631626\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Moorer to unify the WBA and IBF titles in 1994<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kriCH4wBvyM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resurfaced footage<\/a>, Holmes made a shock claim that Foreman \u2018couldn\u2019t fight\u2019 before going on to brand him as the \u2018biggest phoney\u2019 in boxing history.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEverybody know that George Foreman can\u2019t fight, everybody know that Tommy Morrison kicked his butt, everybody know that Shannon Briggs kicked his butt, everybody knew that he wouldn\u2019t fight me.
