Motorists driving petrol and diesel vehicles are being advised to ensure their fuel tanks are as “full as possible” on Wednesday. This caution comes amid forecasts of 24C temperatures from Wednesday to Sunday, reaching a peak of 27C on Friday during the warm spell.<\/p>\n

Specialists at 1dot have claimed that approximately 1-2% of petrol and diesel could evaporate during extreme heat.<\/p>\n

Experts from All on the Wrist Auto and Diesel Repair said: “Excessive heat can lead to increased evaporation of diesel fuel, potentially causing vapor lock and reduced engine efficiency.”<\/p>\n

“Additionally, engine oil may become less viscous in hot conditions, potentially compromising its protective properties.”<\/p>\n

There is an urging for all motorists and road users to keep their fuel tanks topped up as much as possible.<\/p>\n

As temperatures rise across the UK, fake reports being shared online claim that filling up during a heatwave could lead to petrol tanks exploding. Fake posts on Facebook<\/a> and Whatsapp, which have been shared online for years, falsely claim that five cars have exploded in the last week as owners filled their tanks to the limit, reports Birmingham Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But the RAC has dismissed these claims as a social media hoax. In response to the rumours, RAC spokesperson Rod Dennis said: “There is no truth in this.<\/p>\n

“All fuel systems on passenger vehicles are designed to cope with any expansion of fuel, or vapour coming from the fuel. There is no risk of explosion from filling up a fuel tank fully and drivers should have no concerns in doing so.<\/p>\n

“We’d recommend people avoid the temptation to share misinformation like this via social media.”<\/p>\n

Mr Dennis urged drivers to be prepared for road trips by filling their tanks completely, especially when embarking on long journeys.<\/p>\n
