Beloved 80s space comedy<\/a> Spaceballs is actually coming back after 40 years \u2014 and so is Mel Brooks.<\/p>\n

The 1987 classic will finally get a sequel to mark 40 years since it first hit cinemas and roasted almost every major movie along with it.<\/p>\n

Spaceballs, which has gathered a cult following since its release, is primarily a spoof of Star Wars<\/a> but also parodies Alien, Star Trek<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n

Even the Wizard of Oz wasn\u2019t safe from Mel\u2019s cutting comedy, with the actor having co-written, produced and directed as well as playing two characters.<\/p>\n

The as-yet untitled sequel will see the return of the 98-year-old actor, who is soon to turn 99, because how could it possibly be made without him.<\/p>\n

Little is known about the Amazon MGM Studios production other than it is due to reach theatres in 2027.<\/p>\n

Mel posted a video on his X account, teasing which franchises could be in his sights and ridiculing the sequel culture we\u2019re currently living in.<\/p>\n

\u2018I told you we\u2019d be back,\u2019 he wrote in bold letters before the familiar Star Wars (or Spaceballs) blue writing scrolled before fans.<\/p>\n

It read: \u2018Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy. But since then there have been\u2026 A prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, a prequel to the sequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff which is both a prequel and a sequel.\u2019<\/p>\n

As the fanfare played, names of numerous other franchises were displayed such as seven Jurassic Parks, \u201936 MCU movies with two different Robert Downey Jr.\u2019s\u2019 and \u2018DCU attempt number one\u2019 and \u2018number two\u2019.<\/p>\n

The video cut to Mel wearing a Spaceballs sweatshirt as he said: \u2018After 40 years, we asked \u201cwhat do the fans want?\u201d But instead, we\u2019re making this movie.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fans of the cult classic will remember his golden painted face as Yoghurt, the spoof version of Star Wars\u2019 Yoda who upholds the good side of \u2018the Schwartz\u2019.<\/p>\n

Mel also appeared as President Skroob \u2014 Brooks written backwards \u2014\u00a0who is the useless leader of Planet Spaceballs.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> confirmed that the EGOT winner is not the only original cast member returning, either.<\/p>\n

Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis will reprise their roles as Lone Starr and Lord Dark Helmet (parodies of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, respectively).<\/p>\n

Joining the cast is Keke Palmer who is almost as well-known for her comedy off-screen as she is for her acting on-screen.<\/p>\n

The Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film is being kept incredibly under wraps.<\/p>\n

This will be the first time Rick, 72, will appear in a live-action movie since 1997 and the first film appearance at all since he voiced Rutt in Brother Bear 2 (2006).<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been living life away from Hollywood since then, keeping out of the spotlight \u2014\u00a0until now. <\/p>\n

Hopefully, Spaceballs 2 will be worthy of his re-emergence after three decades. Only time will tell so may the Schwartz be with you, Spaceballs 2 cast. <\/p>\n
