{"id":179970,"date":"2025-06-13T02:42:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T02:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/179970\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T02:42:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T02:42:09","slug":"liverpool-libraries-to-join-50-other-north-west-venues-for-special-rhyme-time-sessions-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/179970\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool libraries to join 50 other North West venues for special &#8216;Rhyme Time&#8217; sessions next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Libraries across Liverpool will be stacking up support for children\u2019s literacy as they take part in a special \u2018rhyme time\u2019 session later this month.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday 19 June at 10.30am, five libraries will be joining around 50 other venues across the North West to host a free, simultaneous story and singalong activity, with thousands of families expected to join in the fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool locations getting involved are Central Library, Lee Valley, Sefton Park, Spellow and Wavertree libraries \u2013 there\u2019s no need to register attendance and people are invited to turn up on the morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the session is to promote a love of reading and develop language skills. They involve songs, rhymes, stories and movement, often with an opportunity to share games, instruments and toys. Importantly, they include synchronised face-to-face songs and stories, promoting bonding and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/liverpool.gov.uk\/council\/key-statistics-and-data\/headline-indicators\/education-and-skills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data released last year<\/a>\u00a0shows Liverpool is below the national averages in early years development and attainment in primary and secondary schools, highlighting the importance of literacy initiatives such as this.<\/p>\n<p>The event has been organised by Libraries Connected, an independent charity that supports, promotes and represents public\u00a0libraries, and in a recent survey carried out they discovered that 97 per cent of teachers said rhyme times are important for young children\u2019s development, with 66 per cent saying they are \u201cvery important\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"838\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMG_7523-838x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Liverpool\" class=\"wp-image-153123\"\/>Credit: Central Library<\/p>\n<p>Other areas taking part on the 19th\u00a0are libraries across the Liverpool City Region, Manchester, Wigan, Oldham and Rochdale.<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool City Council\u2019s Cabinet Member responsible for libraries, Councillor Harry Doyle, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur libraries are magical places where stories come to life and imaginations grow. This mass rhyme time is a brilliant way to bring families together, spark a love of reading, and support children\u2019s development in a fun and joyful way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud that Liverpool is part of this celebration of learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Isobel Hunter MBE, Chief Executive of Libraries Connected said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is such a brilliant way to showcase the value of libraries for babies and toddlers. Rhyme times are such joyous events, filling the library with songs, stories and laughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re also a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to meet and make new friends at what can be a lonely and overwhelming time.
