Arsenal have reportedly made a formal offer for Manchester United<\/a>-linked Viktor Gyokeres<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Swedish international has risen to prominence as one of Europe’s leading strikers in recent years, boasting an impressive tally of 97 goals in 102 matches since his move from Coventry City to Liga Portugal in July 2023.<\/p>\n

Sporting’s top goal scorer this season has made a significant impact in the Portuguese top-tier, netting 39 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances. The 27-year-old has been a pivotal player in Rui Borges’ squad, driving Sporting to another league title and cup victory.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports <\/a>claimed on Tuesday that the Reds have made an approach to sign Gyokeres. It is said that United are exploring the conditions of a potential deal.<\/p>\n

Gyokeres reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting this summer for offers above \u00a358million (\u20ac70m) despite a release clause of around \u00a384m (\u20ac100m).<\/p>\n

And Portuguese publication Maisfutebol<\/a> claim that Arsenal are willing to pay a fixed amount below \u20ac60m (around \u00a351m) plus bonuses. It is claimed that despite the initial impasse, negotiations between both clubs are expected to continue in the coming days.<\/p>\n

It is also said that United are ready to make a similar offer for the player Amorim knows well from their time at Sporting together.<\/p>\n

The reports come after Sporting president Frederico Varandas revealed no promises were made to Gyokeres <\/a>about letting him leave for \u20ac60m this summer.<\/p>\n

“It was agreed that Sporting would not demand the release clause at the end of the season, especially because he was going to be 27,” Varandas said.<\/p>\n

“We knew about Viktor’s dream of going to a club where he could fight for the Champions League<\/a> and we have common sense.<\/p>\n

“We guaranteed that we would not demand \u20ac100m. Sporting has common sense, it keeps its word.<\/p>\n

“The president of Sporting said that the club would not demand the clause and that we would adjust the value to Viktor’s performance, he was one of the best players ever to step on the pitch in Portugal.”<\/p>\n
