{"id":180220,"date":"2025-06-13T04:54:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T04:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180220\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T04:54:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T04:54:19","slug":"st-elizabeth-hospice-submit-plans-for-gorleston-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180220\/","title":{"rendered":"St Elizabeth Hospice submit plans for Gorleston facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The application is for a project on a seven-acre site at Sidegate Lane in Gorleston.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  If approved the proposed hospice\u00a0will have an outpatient and community hub offering therapy services, a community caf\u00e9, and an inpatient facility with up to 16 beds.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The\u00a0land was once owned by East Coast Hospice which merged with St Elizabeth Hospice in 2023.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The merger included a feasibility study and stakeholder consultations to ensure the new hospice meets the needs of the Great Yarmouth and Waveney communities.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Norwich-based LSI Architects has worked with the hospice to design plans for the site, aiming to expand palliative care services in the area.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk\/news\/25225250.boots-gorleston-high-street-bar-restaurant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Former Boots could be set for new lease of life as late-night bar and restaurant<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The project involves collaboration with the Louise Hamilton Trust, aiming to deliver high-quality end-of-life services to the local community.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Judi Newman, St Elizabeth Hospice&#8217;s chief executive, said: &#8220;We are delighted to submit this planning application and share our full plans with the wider community.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWith the invaluable support of Roberta Lovick and the Louise Hamilton Trust, we are in a strong position to develop the community hospice sustainably in a single phase. Their partnership has made this opportunity possible, and we are truly grateful.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Construction is planned to begin by early 2026, taking up to two years to complete.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  St Elizabeth Hospice has cared for more than 6,000 patients in Great Yarmouth and Waveney since April 2019 through its healthcare partnership with East Coast Community Healthcare.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The requirement for a hospice is evidenced by population trends from the Office for National Statistics predicting a 35pc\u00a0increase in demand for palliative care by 2040.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Currently, only 2.1pc of residents in Norfolk and Waveney die in a hospice, below the national average of 4.4pc.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  To view and comment on the proposals, search Great Yarmouth Borough Council&#8217;s planning portal for application reference <a href=\"https:\/\/planning.great-yarmouth.gov.uk\/OcellaWeb\/planningDetails?reference=06\/25\/0364\/VCF&amp;from=planningSearch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">06\/25\/0364\/VCF<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The application is for a project on a seven-acre site at Sidegate Lane in Gorleston.
