{"id":180264,"date":"2025-06-13T05:19:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T05:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180264\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T05:19:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T05:19:10","slug":"resident-demands-answers-after-street-without-internet-for-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180264\/","title":{"rendered":"Resident demands answers after street without internet for week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Feniscowles resident is demanding answers after a broadband outage has been causing issues on his street.<\/p>\n<p>Roderick McGurk says he, and some other residents in Star Drive, where work is being carried out by gas company Cadent, have been without internet for a week.<\/p>\n<p>It is not yet known when normal broadband services will resume.<\/p>\n<p>Cadent has said it is not\u00a0responsible for the outage and says it \u201cdiscovered an issue with a broadband cable\u201d while carrying out works on a gas pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>It says fixing it is \u201cbeyond the expertise of a gas network\u201d and says Openreach, which runs the UK&#8217;s digital network, has been contacted.<\/p>\n<p>Roderick, who is now struggling to work from home as a result, \u00a0is now calling on an organisation to \u201cfix the problem instead of arguing about who is liable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Works being carried out on Star Drive, Feniscowles (Image: Roderick McGurk) He said: \u201cEveryone on the street appears to have lost their internet network and we are with different providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of my neighbours work from home and are really struggling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to go into the office as much as possible, but I am dealing with medical issues currently so I work from home at the moment &#8211; and it is a struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t access emails or go on Teams meetings. Even our security cameras are backed up online, and the Ring doorbell needs internet too. It\u2019s affecting everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Star Drive, Feniscowles (Image: Google) Roderick claims\u00a0no company is taking responsibility and fixing the issue.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis is affecting a lot of people in a lot of different ways \u2013 but it feels like everyone is being nonchalant about it, it\u2019s so frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are getting different answers from all parties and internet providers, and none of it makes any sense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It seems like they have spent more time speaking about who is liable for it instead of fixing the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Cadent said it has offered affected residents vouchers to \u201ccover the cost of interim solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Syers, head of work management (North West) at Cadent, said: \u201cWe are carrying out a substantial project in the local area to install a new gas pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Last week, our team discovered an issue with a broadband cable and immediately made Openreach aware of what we found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand the inconvenience for residents of this street. While fixing this is beyond the expertise of a gas network, we still want to help customers if we can.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have offered vouchers to cover the cost of interim solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Openreach has been approached for comment.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Feniscowles resident is demanding answers after a broadband outage has been causing issues on his street.
