{"id":180393,"date":"2025-06-13T06:28:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T06:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180393\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T06:28:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T06:28:12","slug":"i-couldve-easily-shot-2-under","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180393\/","title":{"rendered":"I could&#8217;ve easily shot 2-under"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bryson DeChambeau says he&#8217;s &#8216;pretty disappointed&#8217; with his performance on day one of the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/us-open\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"4d3dcdac-32ab-423b-8188-645f07541b5a\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"US Open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>US Open.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reigning champion, 31, was among the high-profile golfers to struggle at Oakmont on Thursday and is now in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/us-open\/us-open-2025-shocking-names-danger-missing-cut-oakmont\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"edaffa59-c852-434b-ab4b-bac32fdfe5ef\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"US Open 2025: The surprising names in danger of missing the cut at Oakmont\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">danger of missing the cut<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/bryson-dechambeau\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"242767b9-c064-41ee-8466-f7a85ab9a8cc\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Bryson DeChambeau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeChambeau<\/a> was among the morning wave and had a decent start considering the bruising challenge the field faced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He signed for a 3-over 73 which left him seven shots behind early pacesetter JJ Spaun, who carded a flawless 66.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just didn&#8217;t get anything out of it,&#8221; DeChambeau told reporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I kept it 1-under through seven, through eight, hit a perfect drive on nine and this golf course can come up and get you pretty quick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;ve just got to be on your game, and it got me, and I wasn&#8217;t fully on my game. Pretty disappointed with how I played.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not too far off. [I have just] got to get the putting a little bit more dialled and I&#8217;ll be right there because 3-over could have easily been 2-under today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DeChambeau, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/us-open\/stupid-mistake-very-intelligent-man-sky-hammer-bryson-dechambeau-over-rules-situation\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"4133c359-70b8-42b9-8b12-cf1dbb4de8da\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"&#039;Stupid mistake for a very intelligent man...&#039; Sky hammer Bryson DeChambeau over rules situation at US Open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who was also involved in a bizarre rules incident<\/a>, came unstuck on the par-5 12th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The American&#8217;s second shot found the back edge of the green from 287 yards but drew a horrible lie.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DeChambeau said he was trying to hit a &#8216;semi half flop&#8217; that &#8216;came out like a jumper and just shot and knuckled right&#8217;. It led to a bogey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m like, well, horrible decision, but life goes on,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite the start, DeChambeau believes that 3-over could still be the winning score come Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it doesn&#8217;t rain on Saturday then there is probably a decent chance,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I&#8217;m looking to shoot under par [tomorrow] and give myself a better chance going into this weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>JJ Spaun leads the way<\/p>\n<p>America&#8217;s JJ Spaun stunned the field with a bogey-free 4-under 66 on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spaun, who lost to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/rory-mcilroy\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"af3de653-62db-4df6-b6c6-18281f91c1cb\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Rory McIlroy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rory McIlroy<\/a> in a playoff at The Players in March, was the only player not to drop a shot in the morning wave.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I kind of came out here with no prior history at Oakmont, not really knowing what to expect even US Open-wise,&#8221; Spaun said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is only my second one.
