Arsenal<\/a> are preparing an improved bid for Viktor Gyokeres<\/a> but Manchester United<\/a> have also launched a rival offer for the Sporting CP striker, according to reports in Portugal<\/a>.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Arsenal\u2019s sporting director, Andrea Berta, met with his counterpart at Sporting, Bernardo Palmeiro, in Menorca to discuss a deal for the Sweden international<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, Sporting turned down Arsenal\u2019s initial proposal worth an initial \u20ac55 million (\u00a346.8m) plus a further \u20ac10m (\u00a38.5m) in add-ons.<\/p>\n Sporting have made it clear that they are willing to sell Gyokeres for less than his \u20ac100m (\u00a385.1m) release clause and are understood to be holding out for a fee closer to \u20ac80m (\u00a368.1m).<\/p>\n According to Maisfutebol<\/a>, Arsenal are ready to submit an improved bid to Sporting with a package worth \u20ac70m (\u00a359.6m) including bonuses.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on Manchester United every day\t\t\t<\/p>\n Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro\u2019s Football Newsletter. <\/p>\n Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. <\/p>\n \t\t The report claims that Sporting are prepared to hold another round of negotiations with Arsenal, while there is a \u2018growing optimism\u2019 in Gyokeres\u2019 camp that a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also claimed that United remain in the race for Gyokeres and have made it clear to Sporting that they are willing to pay \u20ac60m (\u00a351.1m) up front, plus a further \u20ac10m (\u00a38.5m) in add-ons.<\/p>\n However, United are unable to offer Gyokeres the prospect of playing in Europe next season and it\u2019s reported that Ruben Amorim\u2019s side have \u2018encountered obstacles\u2019 in their direct talks with the striker, who finished the season with 54 goals in 52 games.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Sporting\u2019s president, Frederico Varandas,\u00a0hit out at Gyokeres and his agent on Wednesday<\/a>\u00a0over suggestions that a transfer fee had been agreed ahead of the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n \u2018It was agreed that Sporting would not demand the release clause at the end of the following season, especially because he was going to be 27,\u2019 Varandas said.<\/p>\n \u2018Then, we knew Viktor\u2019s dream of going to a club where he could fight for the Champions League and we have common sense. To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season.\u2019<\/p>\n On Thursday night, Gyokeres appeared to hit back at those claims<\/a> in a post on Instagram which read: \u2018There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false.
