{"id":180564,"date":"2025-06-13T07:59:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T07:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180564\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T07:59:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T07:59:12","slug":"why-andy-murray-said-he-didnt-really-enjoy-winning-his-first-wimbledon-title-in-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180564\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Andy Murray said he &#8216;didn\u2019t really enjoy&#8217; winning his first Wimbledon title in 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Andy Murray enjoyed a legendary tennis career, reaching world number one and winning three Grand Slam titles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The British star lost the first four Grand Slam finals of his career, coming up short against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Federer<\/a> and Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n<p>It was against the Serb that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Murray<\/a> finally picked up his first Major, winning a five-set classic at the 2012 US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Hungry for more, he travelled to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> in 2013 looking to become the first man to win at the All England Club since Fred Perry lifted the trophy in 1936.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"694\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-173111254-1024x694.jpg\" alt=\"Andy Murray poses with the trophy after beating Novak Djokovic in the 2013 Wimbledon final\" class=\"wp-image-83261\" \/>Photo by Julian Finney\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Beating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic<\/a> once more, Murray emerged victorious on Centre Court in 2013, ending the 76-year wait for a men\u2019s winner at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after he won his second Wimbledon title three years later, Murray explained why he \u2018didn\u2019t really enjoy\u2019 his win in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Murray said he felt \u2018pure relief\u2019 after first Wimbledon win and \u2018didn\u2019t really enjoy\u2019 the moment<\/p>\n<p>During his post-match press conference following his second Wimbledon triumph, Murray was asked how the feeling compared to his maiden win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, it is different. I feel happier this time. I feel, yeah, more content this time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, I feel like this was sort of more for myself than anything, and my team as well. We\u2019ve all worked really hard to help get me in this position.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-545866614-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Andy Murray speaks to the media after winning Wimbledon in 2016\" class=\"wp-image-101801\" \/>Photo by Pool\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, last time it was just pure relief, and I didn\u2019t really enjoy the moment as much, whereas I\u2019m going to make sure I enjoy this one more than the others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brit explained what he had to do after the final in 2013 that he planned to avoid the second time around.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just kind of get dragged in all sorts of different directions afterwards,\u201d said Murray.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to spend this time with my family and my closest friends, you know, the people that I work with. That\u2019s who I want to be around right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll make sure I spend a lot of time with them over the next couple of days. The guys that I\u2019ve been playing against have won lots. A lot of people say they are the best three players of all time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve won some matches against them in Slams, but I\u2019ve also lost quite a few, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I want to add to three Slams, I\u2019m going to have to find ways to win against them. It\u2019s very rare that you get through a Slam without playing Novak [Djokovic], Roger [Federer], or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rafael-nadal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rafa [Nadal]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I still feel like my best tennis is ahead of me, that I have an opportunity to win more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s time comes at different stages. Some come in their early 20s, some in their mid-20s.
